Wednesday June 17 is our first summer reading storytime and craft event. This week we will be making fossils to kick off our dinosaur themed summer.

Flyers were sent home with the Swan Valley Elementary School students today. Stop by during library hours and pick up reading logs for the summer reading program. This Friday will be our last Friday storytime. We will have summer story and craft time every Wednesday starting on June 17.

I had the pleasure of meeting Nick last week and acquiring a telescope for our library. Stop by and check it out.

✨🔭 UM has teamed up with NASA to bring telescopes to libraries across Montana. People across Big Sky Country will now be able to check out the telescopes to enjoy Montana’s amazing night skies.

Nick Wethington leads UM’s Big Sky, Bigger Dreams initiative. It was his dream to bring the joy of astronomy to rural areas of the state.

“Librarians believe that everyone should have free access to knowledge and resources,” he said. “A telescope that you can check out for free just like a book is a perfect crossover!”

Friday is Story time at 11 and Craft club at 1pm at the library. Also our Book chat for May we are reading James Lee Burke's book Wayfaring Stranger. Book Chat is on Wednesday May 13 at 1pm. Come pick up a book and join us.

In 1934, sixteen-year-old Weldon Avery Holland happens upon infamous criminals Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow after one of their notorious armed robberies. A confrontation with the outlaws ends with Weldon firing a gun, unsure whether it hit its mark.

Ten years later, Second Lieutenant Weldon Holland barely survives the Battle of the Bulge, in the process saving the lives of his sergeant, Hershel Pine, and a young Spanish prisoner of war, Rosita Lowenstein—a woman who holds the same romantic power over him as the strawberry blonde Bonnie Parker, and is equally mysterious. The three return to Texas where Weldon and Hershel get in on the ground floor of the nascent oil business.

In just a few years’ time Weldon will spar with the jackals of the industry, rub shoulders with dangerous men, and win and lose fortunes twice over. But it is the prospect of losing his one true love that will spur his most reckless act yet—one inspired by that encounter long ago with the outlaws of his youth.
