Due to the amount of recent precipitation received in the area and the drop in temperature trends, the Flathead National Forest will rescind Stage 1 Fire Restrictions as of this Friday, 8/9

In addition, the fire danger on the forest has transitioned from VERY HIGH down to HIGH

Although these changes reflect improved conditions, the risk of wildfires are still present on the Flathead National Forest and across Northwest Montana.

Help us treasure our state! Keep up with restrictions when visiting new areas and be aware of what you can do to prevent wildfires. Visit:

With many people without power and power lines still down, please check on your neighbors to make sure they're OK. 9-1-1 is busy taking many calls, and if you're able to help your neighbors, this can relieve the pressure off our emergency communications and dispatchers.
