Been a busy 24 hours for your Conklin Volunteers. We have responded to 6 calls for service across numerous communities. Below is a list of the incidents we responded to.

- Brush/Tanker assist with a large outdoor fire in Five Mile Point Fire District.
- Fire Alarm at SV High School while units were operating at the above call.
- Tanker 46 standby in Hallstead Fire station as they were operating on a fire in a train car in Great Bend.
- Tanker 46 assist to Five Mile Point Fire for the train car now on fire in their district (pictured in post).
- Service call in Pride Manor trailer park for an electrical issue.
- Odor of gas in a business on Broome Corporate Parkway.

Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company Responds to Structure Fire on Cynthia Drive
Town of Binghamton, NY – July 26, 2026
At approximately 12:55 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, the Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a reported chair and carpet fire at 3333 Cynthia Drive in the Town of Binghamton.
Upon arrival, first-due crews encountered heavy smoke showing from the Bravo/Charlie (B/C) corner of the residence, indicating a rapidly developing fire. Based on the conditions, a second alarm was immediately requested, bringing mutual aid assistance from the Binghamton Fire Department, Conklin Fire Department, Five Mile Point Fire Company, Vestal Fire Department (stations 32-2 and 32-4), Kirkwood Fire Company, and Silver Lake Fire Company. Broome Ambulance and the Broome County Office of Emergency Services also responded to provide support during the incident.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior attack by deploying two hose lines—one through the front entrance and a second through the attached garage. As the fire extended to the rear of the residence, a third hoseline was deployed to extinguish the exterior fire.
Crews encountered significant challenges while operating inside the home due to heavily obstructed rooms and blocked hallways, which delayed access to the room of origin. During suppression efforts, the second floor collapsed into the room of origin, creating additional hazards for firefighters. Despite these conditions, crews successfully contained and extinguished the fire while preventing further extension.
Once the fire was under control, the scene was secured and turned over to the Broome County Fire Investigation unit. Investigators determined the fire to be accidental in nature. The cause was identified as a candle that had been knocked over by the family's dog.
Fortunately, no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
The Town of Binghamton Volunteer Fire Company extends its sincere appreciation to all mutual aid agencies, Broome Ambulance, Broome County Office of Emergency Services, and the Broome County Fire Investigation Team for their assistance and professionalism throughout this incident. Their coordinated response and teamwork were instrumental in bringing the fire under control safely and efficiently.
This incident serves as an important reminder to use extreme caution when burning candles. Never leave a candle unattended, keep open flames away from combustible materials, and ensure candles are placed where children and pets cannot accidentally knock them over.

We had a blast participating in the Kirkwood Parade celebrating America’s 250th birthday!

After many years, we were proud to once again show off our beautiful parade truck. A huge shoutout to Mike and Willie Platt for their recent efforts to get the truck back on the road.

We also featured our Utility and new ATV.

It was great so see such a great turnout from the community and hope everyone enjoyed the day!

Chief James G. Sitek, 68
West Colesville Fire Company. Binghamton, NY
Chief Sitek passed away while assisting at the scene of a residential fire in the Town of Conklin. Just before 3 a.m., the county 911 center received a call about a possible house fire at 21 JR Blvd in the Town of Conklin. Heavy fire was observed by first arriving units, and a second alarm response was immediately called for. The West Colesville Fire Department were among the departments called out after the request for additional help. While crews were at the scene, Sitek suffered an apparent medical emergency. Medical care was administered and he was taken to Wilson Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. Sitek was a 35-year volunteer firefighter with the West Colesville Fire Company, and he held the title of fire chief for the past three years.

Today at 4:11pm, Conklin Fire and mutual aid departments were dispatched to 12 Midway Dr. in Conklin for a reported house fire with possible entrapment. Law enforcement arrived on scene shortly afterward and confirmed a working fire, and all occupants were out of the residence. Chief 46A requested a second alarm, bringing additional mutual aid units to the scene. Squad 21, Training 21, and Fire Marshal 21 also responded from the City of Binghamton.

Squad 21 arrived on scene first and deployed a hose line to the 2nd floor and began fire suppression efforts. Crews from Squad 46 and Tower 46 arrived and assisted with water supply, ventilation,and opening up the walls and ceiling to expose any remaining fire. The fire was knocked down quickly and fire damage was contained to the second floor area where the fire originated.

No injuries were reported on the scene. The cause of the fire was deemed electrical in nature.
