Future Cavalier Family,

On behalf of the East Burke High School Athletic Department, students, families, faculty, and staff of Ray Childers Elementary, Icard Elementary, Hildebrand Elementary, George Hildebrand Elementary, and East Burke Middle School to the Future Cavalier Night on Friday, August 28th, as we kick off the 2026 home football season in Cavalier Country! Our Cavaliers will take on the Fred T. Foard Tigers, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Gates will open at 6:15 p.m.

As a special thank you to our feeder schools, all students from Ray Childers Elementary, Icard Elementary, Hildebrand Elementary, George Hildebrand Elementary, and East Burke Middle School will be admitted FREE with school identification or by identifying their school at the gate. Parents and other adult attendees will pay the regular $8.00 admission.

We are excited to welcome our future Cavaliers and their families for an evening of school spirit, community, and great football.
Please note that East Burke High School has a clear bag policy and metal detectors at all entrances to help ensure a safe environment for everyone attending.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of East Burke High School. We look forward to seeing your students and families on August 28th for an exciting night in Cavalier Country!

Good evening, Icard Families!

This is your principal, Carly Johnson, with your weekly announcements. Thank you for a wonderful Open House! We loved seeing our students healthy, happy, and excited to begin the 2026–27 school year. As we get ready for our first week, here are a few important reminders:

First Day & Arrival
Grades 1–5: Monday, August 24
Pre-K & Kindergarten: Students will attend conferences on August 24 or 25 and will begin attending school on August 26 or 27.
All students: Friday, August 28

Car riders must enter through the main building. Please do not drop students off at the Annex.

Students should be in their classrooms by 7:55 a.m.

Pre-K–2: Breakfast in the cafeteria from 7:30–7:53 a.m.
Grades 3–5: Grab-and-go breakfast in classrooms beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Transportation & Dismissal

Please help us keep arrival and dismissal safe and consistent:

Establish a consistent daily transportation plan. Daily changes are not permitted.
Display your car rider tag at dismissal.
Early check-outs are not permitted after 2:00 p.m.
Please review the traffic patterns included in this week's newsletter.
Important Reminders
Medication: All medications must be signed in through the front office.
Chromebooks: The fee is $25 for one student or $50 for two or more students. Please use the QR code in the written weekly newsletter to pay. Chromebooks will be issued this week but will not go home.
Meals: Breakfast and lunch remain free for all students this year.
ClassDojo: Teachers will respond outside of instructional and supervision times. For urgent needs, please contact the front office.
Cell Phones: Student cell phones must remain off or on silent and stored in book bags during the school day.
Lunch Visitors: Lunch visitors will begin September 8. Visitors must present an ID and be listed on the student's approved contact list. Please wait until September 8 so we can establish consistent routines with our students.
Grandparents Week: September 14–18. Please complete the Grandparents Week form so we can plan for an accurate head count by September 2nd.

Good Evening Icard Families,
This is your principal, Carly Johnson, calling with a reminder of our Open House on Thursday, August 20th from 5-7 pm. Please park where you can find a spot. Upon parking, please enter through the main building door. You will be directed from there . We look forward to seeing you at our event.

August 24th is our first student day for students in grades 1st-5th. PreK and Kindergarten will have conferences on the 24th or the 25th and do a staggered start on the 26th and 27th. Please see the letter that was formally mailed to your house at the beginning of August for your conference date and time as well as your child's start date. PreK and Kindergarten conferences are mandatory. All PreK and Kindergarten students will go to school Friday, August 28th.

I am so honored to serve you once again for the 26-27 school year and the staff is so excited to welcome your children back to school! I am blessed to continue to serve this school community and give back to and honor the legacy established here at Icard Elementary.
The Icard Elementary Open House is scheduled for August 20th from 5-7 pm. Please park where you can find a spot. Upon parking, please enter through the main building door. You will be directed from there . We look forward to seeing you at our event. You will receive a call this week from teachers regarding your child's homeroom placement by August 18th at 3pm.

BCPS will host our annual high school football JAMBOREE on Friday at Patton High School. First scrimmage kicks off at 6:30 p.m. In addition to the action on the field, community agencies will set up information booths started at 6 p.m. Admission is $10. No passes will be accepted. Those 10 and under get in for free. Please note we will follow our safe gate entry procedures with only clear bags allowed and walk-through metal detectors in place. From our friends at the Burke County Health Department: Burke County Public Health, located at 700 E. Parker Road, Morganton, provides recommended childhood and adolescent immunizations to help students start the school year protected and ready to learn. Vaccines available include DTaP, Tdap, Meningococcal, Meningococcal B, HPV, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, MMR, Polio, Varicella (chickenpox), Hib, Prevnar (pneumococcal), Rotavirus (RotaTeq), and combination vaccines including Pentacel and Vaxelis. Appointments are required for all immunizations, and patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at the time of their visit. Burke County Public Health accepts a variety of insurance plans, including Aetna, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, NC State Health Plan, Surest, UnitedHealthcare (UHC), Ambetter, AmeriHealth Caritas NC, Carolina Complete Health, Healthy Blue, Humana, Partners Health, Vaya Health, WellCare, MPE Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility, and TRICARE.
