I would like to introduce the latest Paramedic School graduates at Fayette County EMS, Ally and Dalton! Their official graduation has been postponed since it was scheduled for the day of the recent flood, but they passed!

These two have put life on hold to pursue the highest level of EMS License offered in the State of Indiana. They both completed the Reid Health Paramedic Program by completing over 1,200 hours of training and education. This included over 500 hours of classroom time and over 600 hours of clinical rotations. They also obtained Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support certifications. This was all accomplished while working full time.

This isn’t just a professional kudos from our administration. This is a personal congratulations to them both! It takes determination, Fortitude and lots of VERY long days and nights to accomplish this feat.

Congrats!

While we did set a department record for the number of calls taken during a 24 hour period of time during the flood, this is not a record that I wanted nor one that we ever want to break!

I have to commend the entire EMS Department on how we responded to the flooding. Not only did we up-staffed from our normal 3 Ambulances to 5 Ambulances but we also had 4 additional staff members that came in to help shoulder the burden. During the flood we split our resources between the areas east of the Whitewater River and the areas west of the river to ensure that we could respond to any emergency within our county. Many of our staff just showed up to the station wanting to help, not expecting to be paid but because the community needed help.

I am very proud of all of the EMS employees but also all the city and county departments! Everyone stepped up, putting their lives on hold, to make sure that everyone was safe and roads were opened as soon as possible.
