Dear N-CMS Families,

I am excited to share some incredible news about the continued success of our students and staff at Newton-Conover Middle School!

Last school year, N-CMS had the highest academic growth in the district. Even more exciting, for the first time in our school’s history, N-CMS exceeded growth according to the NC state accountability model!

But there is an even bigger accomplishment that we want our entire school community to celebrate:

N-CMS has now met or exceeded academic growth for FIVE CONSECUTIVE YEARS!

This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, staff, and families. Our teachers continue to set high expectations, use data to guide instruction, provide additional support when students need it, and believe in the potential of every child. Our students have demonstrated perseverance and a commitment to learning, and our families continue to partner with us in supporting their success.

This is not just one successful year. Five consecutive years of meeting or exceeding growth demonstrates a sustained commitment to student achievement and continuous improvement at N-CMS.

We are incredibly proud of what our students and staff have accomplished. At the same time, we know that success is not a finish line. We will continue working together to ensure that our students have the knowledge, skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to be successful.

Thank you for trusting us with your children and for being an important part of the N-CMS family. We are proud of our students, proud of our staff, and proud of the partnership we share with our families.

Here are your announcements for the week of August 31-September 4, 2026.

First Week Success: We had a great first week of school! Thank you, parents, for your vital role in preparing students for another successful school year.

Dress Code Reminders: Please take a moment to review our school dress code expectations with your child. Starting this week, if a dress code infraction occurs, students will be asked to call home or select a change of clothes from our clothes closet.

Free Meals for All Students: Breakfast and lunch are free for all students this year! Please encourage your child to take advantage of school meals—high participation helps us maintain funding to extend this free meal program into future school years.

PBIS Reward Store Donations: We are seeking donations of small prizes, snacks, and incentives to stock our PBIS reward store. Students earn tickets for demonstrating positive behavior and following school rules, and winning entries pick from our prize selection. Any donations can be dropped off at the main office.

Mark Your Calendars – Picture Day: Picture Day is scheduled for September 24th. All students will have their photos taken on this day for the yearbook. Order forms will be sent home soon if you wish to purchase picture packages.

Arrival & Drop-Off Safety
Doors Open: 7:10 a.m. | School Starts: 7:40 a.m.
Safety Reminder: Please do not drop students off before 7:10 a.m., as staff supervision is not available prior to that time.
School Dismissal: School dismisses at 2:50 p.m. Car riders must be picked up no later than 3:30 p.m.
Sign Outs: There are no student sign-outs past 2:30 p.m.
Students who are not in homeroom by 7:40 will be marked tardy. Please ensure you have your child at school in plenty of time to make it to homeroom on time.

Clubs & Activities
Students who are interested in joining our Battle of the Books team will need to see Ms. Bowman in the Media Center during Homeroom one day this week.

Good evening, N-CMS Red Devil Family!

Here are your announcements for the week of August 24-28, 2026.
Welcome back! We are excited to kick off the 2026–2027 school year. Thank you to everyone who attended our parent information meeting and Open House last week—we had a fantastic turnout! A special welcome to all of our new students and incoming 6th graders joining the Red Devil family. Monday, August 24 is the first day of school.

Arrival & Drop-Off Safety
Doors Open: 7:10 a.m. | School Starts: 7:40 a.m.
Safety Reminder: Please do not drop students off before 7:10 a.m., as staff supervision is not available prior to that time.
Please avoid parking to walk your child into the building, as this creates a safety hazard in the drop-off line.
School Dismissal: School dismisses at 2:50 p.m. Car riders must be picked up no later than 3:30 p.m.
Sign Outs: There are no student sign-outs past 2:30 p.m.

Bus Transportation
Please have your student at their bus stop early during the first few days of school. Many pickup routes begin around 6:15 a.m.
Buses may run late initially as routes are ironed out—thank you for your patience with our drivers!
School administration will visit each classroom on Monday to review bus information and confirm how every student is getting home.

Athletics
Cross Country Tryouts: Monday & Tuesday. Students trying out should meet Mr. Earp at the front picnic tables.
Boys Soccer Tryouts: August 24, 25, and 26 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Clubs & Activities
Yearbook Club: Interested 8th-grade students can pick up an application from Mrs. Reese in Room 110 during homeroom.
Fantasy Football Club: Open to all grade levels! Stop by Mr. Caldwell's room (Room 212) to pick up a permission slip. Completed permission slips are required to join.

Parents, Reminder: Tomorrow is Open House at N-CMS from 3:00–6:00 p.m.!

Grade-Level Schedule:

6th Grade: 3:00 p.m.

7th Grade: 4:00 p.m.

8th Grade: 5:00 p.m.

New to N-CMS? Join our optional Parent Meeting at 2:00 PM in the Auditorium to learn about school operations and expectations. Doors open at 1:50 PM.
