Medicare scams don't stop for the holidays. It is important to stay diligent and continue to check your Medicare Summary Notices (MSNs) and/or Explanations of Benefits (EOBs) to see if there are any suspicious charges that could be potential fraud, errors, or abuse.

Happy December! We hope everyone is staying warm and cozy with winter season upon us!

Here are a couple of reminders:

Low-Income Heating & Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) applications are available through Opportunities, Inc in Great Falls - that program is no longer housed in our agency. If you wish to contact Opportunities, Inc. please call them at 1-406-761-0310.

SHIP Counseling: Open Enrollment Period has ended for this year.
The OEP was a few weeks of opportunity for people to review their prescription coverage and make changes if they chose to do so based on the cost of that coverage. Anyone who is soon to retire and/or new to Medicare can contact our office for additional information related to medication coverage for this coming year.

SMP (Senior Medicare Patrol) program is working diligently to keep seniors advised to the scams and incidents of fraud targeting seniors = especially this time of year and prior to tax time. Please do not give out any personal information, date of birth, social security or insurance numbers to anyone on the telephone. If they state they are calling from law enforcement, hang up immediately and contact the true police department with the number from your caller ID.

Our two commodities programs are on track providing food for senior citizens centers in our Area III counties (NSIP) as well as the individual commodities (CSFP) If you wish to apply, please call our office at 406-271-7553 and we will be happy to mail an application out to you. Completed applications can be returned to our office for eligibility determination.

Anyone needing help with their Medicaid application can call and we can send out the application to you however, it must be submitted to Office of Public Assistance as they determine which programs an applicant may qualify for. There is a field office representative at the Teton County Courthouse in Choteau on Wednesdays and submitting application in person is the recommended way to do that. There is also the Office of Public Assistance in Great Falls - unfortunately calling the toll free number has not been a successful means of contact.

Wishing everyone a blessed holiday season and a very Merry Christmas!

Good Morning!
It has been so so long since I have posted anything for our page -

Seniors!! We are currently in the throes of Open Enrollment for review and updating of your Medicare Drug Plans - If you would like to set up an appointment with our SHIP Counselor, Lindsey, please contact our office during business hours at 406-271-7553.

Additionally, this time of year is when rampant scamming happens, just this morning we received a call from one of our seniors who stated she received a call from someone claiming to be calling from Medicare to follow and see if she received her new Medicare card. She told this person no - they stated you should have received it two weeks ago....she disconnected the call.
PLEASE do not give any number or personal information out to anyone identifying as calling from Medicare or Social Security or for any entity asking for your personal and private information. If you have received a call that makes you suspicious, please call the Senior Medicare Patrol hotline at:

The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) hotline is 1-877-808-2468. The hotline is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM–5:30 PM Eastern Time. You can also use the SMP Locator to find your local SMP.

The SMP is a program that helps seniors with healthcare fraud. They can:
Help with questions, concerns, or complaints about potential fraud and abuse
Provide information and educational presentations

You can also contact your local Area Agency on Aging at 406-271-7553 for SHIP Counselor information.

Another update relates to the LIHEAP Program - Low Income Household Energy Assistance Program. Our agency housed this program for many years and after the 2022-2023 season, the program was moved to Opportunities, Inc in Great Falls. For all questions, application and all other information please contact them at 1-406-761-0310.

Have a great rest of this week!

We thought this might be a great opportunity to update everyone on some important phone numbers.

Virginia Suite 2) next to the Pondera Community & Senior Center or give a call 406-271-7553 and we can mail you an application! Happy Snowy Tuesday! It has been a minute since I posted a quick update so here goes!

Open Enrollment for Medicare recipients ends tomorrow, December 7th however our State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) coordinator can visit with anyone who has questions throughout the year by appointment. Our office number is 406-271-7553, we are open during business hours / closed for lunch 12-1 daily.

The Low-Income Household Energy Assistance Program "LIHEAP" (now pronounced "lie-heap") season is in full swing. Eligibility is determined once a completed application is submitted. Applications are available in our office for pick-up in person or by calling 406-271-7553 we are also happy to mail you one. There is a checklist of require documentation for the household applying - an application is incomplete if all required documentation is not provided. This year only a one month look back is required (it has been three months in the past) and the bump we have come across this year is that bank statements don't provide information from the 1st of a month to the 30th (31st) of each month so it could require two months statements because an entire months record is required. Applications coming in to our office that are missing information get delayed in processing - Please double check before returning or dropping applications off! Additionally - Please make sure the signature page is complete and included (per instructions)

Commodity Supplemental Food Program continues and is available to eligible persons - please contact our office for more information and application. 406-271-7553

We are also able to provide telephone numbers and contact information for local and area senior services - don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions!

Happy Winter!
