Habitat Partner families work side-by-side with other volunteers to construct the homes. Once a Family Partner completes 350 hours of "sweat equity", Habitat finances their finished home through a twenty-year, interest-free mortgage that the family repays. Making a monthly mortgage payment, usually less than rent for minimal housing, gives Partners pride of accomplishment as well as pride of ownership. In addition, their mortgage payments are part of Habitat's circle of partnership, providing revenue to continue the cycle of building more Habitat homes.
