This past week, the crew of Station 63-B successfully completed the Rescue Boat Operator Course taught by Triad Rescue International.

They received both classroom and hands on instruction designed to enhance their capabilities during flood and water rescue incidents.

Topics covered included:
• Safety Lecture
• Understanding Various Types of Water and Watercraft
• Basic Motor Care and Maintenance
• Crew Positions and Duties
• Self-Rescue Procedures
• Boat Handling Skills and Drills
• Ladder Rescues

With our area prone to heavy rainfall, flash flooding, and hurricane impacts, maintaining proficiency in water rescue operations is critical. Training like this ensures our personnel are prepared to safely and effectively respond when our community needs us most.

Today, Station 62-A had the honor of attending the Juneteenth Celebration hosted by Children's Books on Wheels in the historic Tamina Community alongside our partners from South Montgomery County Fire Department.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate freedom, education, and community while connecting with the families we proudly serve. Our crew enjoyed meeting residents, sharing fire and life safety information, and supporting an event that highlights the rich history and culture of the Tamina Community.

A heat advisory has been issued for Montgomery County starting tomorrow at 11am through Friday evening. This will likely be extend into the weekend as the heat has returned. Please take plenty of shade breaks and stay hydrated if you’re outside.

This morning, Evacuation Vehicle 61 and Utility 61 responded to a Water Rescue - Sinking Vehicle within our district. Due to the heavy rainfall moving through the area, several roadways are beginning to experience flooding conditions.

More rain is expected in the forecast, which could lead to additional flooding concerns and rapidly changing conditions on area roadways.

If you must travel, please use extreme caution and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. It only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle away.
