Hurricane season officially starts today, and in Southeast Texas, we don't wait around to get ready.

Montgomery County Food Bank works year-round with Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management so that when a storm hits and families need food and water fast, we can respond right away.

This season, we're especially grateful to Kroger for donating truckloads of water. This generosity helps us meet the needs of Montgomery County neighbors before the first storm ever forms.

That's a wrap on the 2025-2026 Backpack Food Program! Last week, Montgomery County Food Bank distributed the final backpacks of the school year, capping off a year that delivered more than 360,000 meals to students across the county πŸŽ’

A massive thank you to Amazon.com for partnering with us to pick up and deliver these meals every single week. Their logistics expertise made the program run faster and more efficiently, allowing the Food Bank team to focus on preparing food while Amazon handled getting it where it needed to go.

But summer brings a new challenge. With school out, the meals that once arrived in backpacks are gone, and the children who counted on them now face a long stretch without that reliable support. Summer is the hungriest time of year for kids in Montgomery County, and starting next week, we're launching our biggest push of the season to make sure no child goes hungry this summer.

We're excited to share that our Community Resources Coordinator has a new way to schedule an appointment for application assistance!

Many families in our community qualify for critical assistance programs but face barriers in applying. We're here to help with benefit application assistance, with Caroline hard at work across the county to meet with neighbors and walk through applications for essential resources like SNAP, CHIP, Medicaid, TANF, and Healthy Texas Women.

If you can't make one of her in-person dates for June (schedule available at mcfoodbank.org/AppAssist) you can now easily schedule a phone call appointment with Caroline at mcfoodbank.org/AppChat.
