Not every piece of food can reach a neighbor’s plate, but that does not mean its journey is over. 🌱🍎

At Montgomery County Food Bank, our team carefully sorts each delivery so that as much safe, nutritious food as possible can reach neighbors across Montgomery County. When food cannot be shared, its journey may continue in another meaningful way, whether through composting with local farms and community members or helping nourish animals at sanctuaries.

We are grateful to community members like Living Earth and Allison Farm who help continue this journey. Whether these materials return nutrients to the soil or help nourish animals in their care, each responsible use keeps more food out of the landfill and gives it a new purpose.

September is just one week away, with college football also around the corner. But there’s another kickoff coming up that matters: Hunger Action Month.

This September, Montgomery County Food Bank joins food banks across the Feeding America network for a month-long push with a simple call: Play Your Part. Fighting hunger is not one person's job, and it never has been. It takes farmers who grow food, drivers who move it, volunteers who pack it, donors who fund it and neighbors who speak up.

Here’s how you can play your part with MCFB:

💵 Donate: Your gift lets us source the food that stocks 90+ partner agencies across the county.
🤝 Volunteer: Give your time to help sort, pack and keep food moving into our community.

Montgomery County Food Bank was heartbroken to learn of the passing of longtime volunteer Gene Kliewer earlier this month.

For years, Gene was a friendly face at the Food Bank, giving more than 600 hours of his time to help feed neighbors facing hunger. Recently, his fellow Red Shirt volunteers gathered during Gene’s usual shift to sort and prepare food in his memory. His usual chair remained empty in his honor.

Our hearts are with Gene’s family and everyone who had the privilege of serving alongside him. Thank you, Gene, for all you gave to our neighbors and the Montgomery County community ❤️🍎
