Section 504 Under Attack - Again

If States succeed, that could strip disabled people the right to publicly funded services that allow them to live in their own homes and neighborhoods, and instead push them into institutions such as state hospitals and nursing homes.

This suit would have disastrous effects on hundreds of thousands of Louisianans by eliminating one of the few tools they have to fight for their rights.

Most Americans with disabilities are aware of SSI’s asset limit of $2,000. This asset limit was based on inflation in 1972 and hasn’t been adjusted for modern inflation. Today’s inflation numbers would see limits around $5,000 if adjusted. To end the disparity, disability advocates have begun addressing it through legislation like the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act. For help planning around the asset limit and other challenges, please visit www.leahylifeplan.com. May is Blood Pressure Month! Whether you are giving or receiving care, monitoring your blood pressure numbers is the first step to avoiding serious health issues. Caregiving can be deeply meaningful, but it can also create ongoing emotional, physical, and financial stress. Over time, chronic stress may contribute to high blood pressure, fatigue, anxiety, sleep problems, and burnout. Many caregivers focus so completely on the needs of their loved one that they delay their own medical appointments, rest, and self-care. Self-care is not a luxury! It is part of sustaining long-term support and healthy family relationships. Join the Leahy Life Plan team and take a few seconds to check your blood pressure; it can save you in the long run.

Description: Centered on a white background in large red outlined bubble lettered text that reads, “DON’T FORGET TO HAVE YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKED.” Underneath that in teal text is a smaller paragraph explaining that when stress is involved, it’s easy to forget to prioritize heart health, and that staying on top of blood pressure is an important step toward preventing serious medical issues. There are three graphics: a monitor, an arm, and a cliff; a stethoscope; and Small decorative symbols like hearts, crosses, and medical icons scattered across the background. The LLP logo is visible in the top-right corner.

Medicaid provides so much more than help benefits. Waivers are covered by Medicaid. These benefits help people stay in their home and community. A primary focus of the Leahy Life Plan team is making sure our clients are aware of all the factors that affect their loved ones. The Medicare 24-month waiting period, established in 1972, leaves new SSI recipients without federal health coverage despite years of advocacy. If you or a loved one needs help planning for or navigating this obstacle, please reach out to one of our team members at www.leahylifeplan.com. For more information on disability planning, follow us on Facebook (Leahy Life Plan) and Instagram ().
