Our CRC Nelvina Jones recently assumed a new title within the Next Steps program in conjunction with Horry County Sheriff's Office, as the SMART Reentry Coordinator! She is doing incredible work at J. Reuben Long Dentention Center, day in and day out to assure that her clients get everything they need to be successful, which is exactly what our THRIVE program is all about. Well done Nelvina 👏👏👏💙

Wrapping up Financial Literacy Month on a high note 🙌

Earlier this week our CRC Kissie Melvin partnered with Horry County Government to lead a THRIVE class for teens—helping the next generation build smart money habits. From budgeting basics to understanding needs vs. wants and the importance of saving, these students are gaining tools that will last a lifetime. More info about future classes coming soon! 💪💰

While we’re still crunching the final numbers, we want to take a moment to thank our incredible VITA team as we wrap up another season✔️

We’re especially grateful for Utocqua, who has served as our program coordinator for over two decades, and to Ona and Eloise, who have dedicated 20 and 23 years as site coordinators and volunteers 👏👏👏

Alongside these three amazing ladies, all our VITA volunteers gave their time and talents this tax season to ensure individuals and families across Horry County received free, reliable tax preparation services. We couldn’t do this work without you—thank you for making such a meaningful impact!

What a night for Team UWHC! 💙

We were honored to attend the Coastal Carolina University NSLS Induction Ceremony, where United Way of Horry County was recognized with the 2026 Impact Award—a reflection of the power of partnership and community impact.

Even more special, the CCU chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success, led by UWHC Board Member Dr. Daphne Holland, presented us with a $1,000 donation to support our United to Read initiative, helping bring books and the joy of reading to local students 📚

We’re also proud to celebrate our intern, Tyler D'Agostino on his induction into NSLS—another example of the next generation of leaders making a difference.

Grateful for this partnership and the shared commitment to strengthening Horry County 🤝

Today’s luncheon brought together community partners, leaders, and participants to highlight the impact of the Next Steps Program at J. Reuben Long Detention Center in partnership with the Horry County Sheriff's Office.
