CONWAY FIRE RECEIVES FIRE SAFE COMMUNITY DESIGNATION 🔥

The Conway Fire Department is proud to once again be recognized as a Fire Safe Community by Fire Safe SC and the South Carolina State Firefighters' Association.

This designation reflects our continued commitment to reducing fire risks, promoting life safety, and educating our community through proactive fire prevention efforts.

To earn this recognition, departments must complete specialized training focused on improving data quality, conducting in-home safety visits, and enhancing community risk reduction and assessment skills through National Fire Academy coursework.

Protecting our community goes beyond responding to emergencies. It starts with prevention, education, and partnerships that help keep Conway safe every day.

We are honored to stand alongside fire departments across South Carolina that share the same commitment to making their communities safer places to live, work, and visit.

There is no chapter in the firefighter handbook called “Kitten Extraction from a Van.”

But when the call comes in, we’re always ready to help.

Conway Fire crews recently responded to a report of a kitten trapped between the undercarriage and battery cell of a hybrid transport van. The tiny passenger had reportedly been stuck since the weekend.

We train for fires, rescues, medical emergencies, and disasters. Sometimes, helping our community comes in all shapes, sizes, and whiskers. 🐾

When the call comes, teamwork matters.

Today, Conway Fire Department trained alongside Horry County Fire Rescue during a technical rescue drill at the Conway Fire Training Facility. Squads 51, 18, and 6, along with Rescue 3, worked through rescue scenarios designed to strengthen coordination, communication, and specialized rescue skills.

Training together ensures our crews are ready to work seamlessly when our community needs us most.

The boats were out. The water was moving (&cold). And suddenly everybody had a very important reason they couldn’t volunteer to be thrown in the river.

Conway Fire recently completed three days of annual hands on training for boat operators focused on boat operations, surface water rescues, victim removals, and multiple rescue techniques.

We now have 18 trained boat operators prepared to respond when our community needs us most. Safe crews. Strong training. Ready for whatever floats our way.

POV: K9 Knox had to schedule a staff meeting because the drought is still doing the absolute most.

Our area remains in a severe drought, and conditions can change from calm to “oh no” very quickly. Please avoid outdoor burning, use extra caution with grills and fire pits, and make sure ci******es and ashes are completely out.

Knox is seated.
The agenda is simple: don’t start a fire.

We are proud of their achievements, grateful for the support systems behind them and honored to welcome them into this next chapter of service to the City of Conway.
