Officer Will McGary Memorial Page

Officer Will McGary Memorial Page God blessed us with 26 wonderful years with Will, this is a place to share your memories. It's not how he died that made him a Hero, it's how he lived.

Sadly missed and lovingly remembered... "Our Will", a genuine, warm-hearted, compassionate gentleman with a magnetic personality, a great sense of humor and a passion for life. He loved his little sister and took pride in being a protective big brother. Will filled our hearts with joy and pride in the life that he lived. He loved people and people loved him, young and old alike. Being a member of

Valley Baptist Church and graduating from Searcy High School, he formed many lifelong friendships. Will enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved playing and watching sports (he excelled at baseball); fishing and hunting were among his favorite pastimes. In 2011, Will began his law enforcement career with the Conway Police Department. He felt honored to be a member of this extraordinary group of men and women. His fellow officers shared that Will was a great Police Officer with a great work ethic, and his law enforcement career had endless possibilities for person of Will's caliber. In February 2013, Officer Will McGary, #474 gave the ultimate sacrifice protecting and serving the citizens of Conway. Will's love for life and his giving spirit continued even in death, through the gift of organ donation. The Officer Will McGary Memorial Foundation has been established to benefit the communities of Searcy and Conway, Arkansas. www.willmcgaryfoundation.org

Today marks 12 years since we lost Officer Will McGary. On this day in 2013, Will was struck by an impaired driver while directing traffic on Dave Ward Drive after a crash—giving his life in service to his community.

Will wasn’t just a great officer; he was a great person. His kindness, dedication, and friendship left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. The Will McGary Memorial Mile stands as a reminder of his sacrifice, but more importantly, of the man he was.

Even though he’s no longer with us, we’ll never forget him. Rest easy, Will.

Our Will is gone but Never Forgotten.
It hardly seems possible that we have been without Will for 12 years now. So many times we have wished to simply turn away from the realization that he is gone. While we can never reconcile his loss in our minds and hearts, we are gratefully aware of the love and honor shown for him. We continue to be struck by the magnitude of his silent acts of goodwill and very proud of his legacy. We remember Will with those who knew him and only knew about him. EOW 02/01/2013. RIP #474

On Thursday, February 1st, 2024 at 6:30 PM we’ll honor Will with a candlelight vigil at the Officer Will McGary Memorial Mile in Conway.

On January 31, 2013 at 7:00 PM Officer McGary #474 was directing traffic at the intersection of Dave Ward Drive and Exchange Avenue in Conway performing the duties of the job he loved. At 7:31 PM this all changed and Officer McGary began to fight for his life after the vehicular assault from an impaired driver. At 4:37 PM on February 1, 2013 Will went to home to be with the Lord.

Officer Will McGary #474 will Never Be Forgotten by those who knew him and those who only knew about him.

Will‘s servant heart continued after death, first by being an an organ donor which changed the lives of three individuals and their families.
Then a foundation was formed in his namesake, the Officer Will McGary Memorial Foundation to continue his legacy. The foundation has proudly benefited over 200 law-enforcement officers and several police departments. In addition, 24 high school seniors have been recognized as role models in their communities and financial assistance was provided for college.

We are beyond grateful for every individual and organization that supported our family and his foundation which has allowed us to continue Will’s legacy of serving others. You truly have blessed our hearts! Thank you! 💙🙏
