FATAL FIRE PRESS RELEASE
Conway, Missouri - On July 7, 2026, at 3:53 p.m., the Conway Volunteer Fire Department received a report of a structure fire on North Porter Avenue in Conway with one resident trapped inside.
Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes and made immediate entry into the structure to search for the victim. The victim was located and removed from the residence, where medical care was immediately started.
The victim was transported by Mercy EMS and Mercy Life Line to Mercy Hospital Springfield Burn Center, where he unfortunately passed away this evening at 7:47 p.m.
The Conway Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by the Lebanon City Fire Department, Lebanon Rural Fire Protection District, Niangua Fire Protection District, Marshfield Fire Protection District. And Hazelgreen Fire Protection District.
The victim has been identified as Robert Welle, 79, of Conway, Missouri.
The Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. At this time, the fire does not appear suspicious.
The Conway Volunteer Fire Department extends our deepest condolences to Mr. Welle's family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.
