DON’T BE THAT PERSON ON THE ROAD🛻

Since January, Horry County’s Roadside Litter team collected about 5,741 bags of trash and 764 bags of recycling from our roadways.

In many cases, debris found along our roadways comes from loads that weren't properly secured during transport.

Unsecured trash or debris can easily blow out of truck beds and trailers, creating litter and safety hazards.

A few quick rules of thumb:

👍Use tarps and netting to hold items in place
👍Don’t overload your vehicle
👍 Cover your truck beds properly
👍Don’t use your truck beds to store trash

Taking these simple precautions before hitting the road can help limit litter in our community.

📱Contact the Horry County Road and Drainage hotline to report debris or illegal dumping at 843-381-8000.

DO YOU KNOW THE IMPACT OF IMPACT FEES?

From new playgrounds and recreation facilities to beach amenities and public safety investments, impact fees help support the infrastructure our growing community needs.

Impact fees are one-time charges paid by developers when new homes or buildings are constructed. The funds help ensure growth contributes to the cost of the services and infrastructure needed to support it.

When the fees are collected, they’re distributed into the following buckets:

🪣Parks & Recreation
🪣Police
🪣Fire
🪣Emergency Operations Center
🪣Solid Waste

Since Horry County began collecting impact fees in October 2021, more than $45 million has been collected to invest back into projects that benefit residents across the county.

It’s an effort to ensure Horry County remains a great place to live, work, and visit for generations to come.

MOSQUITO FACTS 🦟

It’s time for more Mosquito Facts from Horry County Mosquito Control.

The department’s main objective is to reduce the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses in our community.

Mosquitoes carry serious diseases, infecting millions of people worldwide each year. South Carolina is not immune to these mosquito-borne diseases. These viruses and parasites can be harmful to both humans and their pets.

In South Carolina, some of the most common mosquito-borne diseases include:

- West Nile
- Eastern equine encephalitis
- La Cross encephalitis
- Saint Louis encephalitis
- Dog/cat heartworm

Horry County Mosquito Control targets mosquitoes through larviciding before larvae has a chance to become flying, biting adults, and through spraying to mitigate existing populations.
