FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Arkansas State Police Requested to Investigate Death Following Arrest

The Conway Police Department has requested the Arkansas State Police to investigate the death of a 35-year-old white male who was taken into custody and later became unresponsive Saturday evening.
At approximately 5:53 p.m. Saturday, Conway Police officers made contact with the man in the area of Dave Ward Drive and Harkrider Street after officers observed him stumbling and walking into the roadway. Based on the officers’ observations and his behavior, they believed he was under the influence of an intoxicant. The man was taken into custody for public intoxication and an outstanding warrant.
The man was transported to the Faulkner County Detention Center. After arriving at the detention center, he was evaluated by medical personnel, who determined that he required further medical evaluation at a hospital.
Conway Police officers transported him to a local emergency department, arriving shortly after 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers alerted hospital personnel to concerns regarding the man’s condition. Hospital personnel subsequently began emergency medical treatment; however, despite those efforts, he was pronounced deceased at approximately 7:13 p.m.
The Conway Police Department requested that the Arkansas State Police conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
The Conway Police Department is also conducting an administrative review of the incident. The officer involved in the arrest has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with departmental procedures while that review is conducted.
The cause and manner of death have not been determined and will be addressed through the appropriate investigative and medical examination processes.
The man's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Because the Arkansas State Police has been requested to conduct an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, any further inquiries regarding the investigation should be directed to the Arkansas State Police.

Update:
Water levels dropped and the road has been reopened.

Original Post:
🚧 ROAD CLOSURE🚧

South German Lane is currently closed due to water over the roadway near where Stone Dam Creek crosses near Favre Lane.

Please avoid the area and find an alternate route.

We also want to remind everyone that South German Lane isn't the only place where standing water can be dangerous. If you come across water over a roadway, do not drive through it. You can't always tell how deep it is or what may be underneath.

🌧️ Turn around, don’t drown! Stay safe out there.
