A report has been made to the Conyers Housing Authority regarding a false statement being made by a former Housing Authority employee to our residents. This report alleges that the former employee, Ronald Booker, stated to our residents that the Housing Authority plans to kick its residents out in the near future. The allegation also indicates that Mr. Booker stated that voting for a specific candidate for Conyers Mayor would ensure this action would not happen. The Conyers Housing Authority does NOT have any such intentions. The Conyers Housing Authority cannot remove any of its residents without cause, but if cause for eviction does actually exists respective to a resident, that resident must be provided due process in a court of law. The Board of Commissioners of this housing authority, The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the State of Georgia all have policies and laws in place that protect the Rights of tenants from this type of action. It simply can’t be done as Mr. Booker allegedly indicated.

If you have witnessed similar comments made with regards to any political campaign strategy, please contact the Executive Director of the Conyers Housing Authority with further information as well as with any questions or concerns you may have. The alleged actions of this manner are potentially illegal and should be reported immediately. The Housing Authority hosts a monthly Board meeting every third Wednesday of each month that is open to the public. Anyone is welcome to attend and ask questions directly to the Board of Commissioners regarding concerns like this. It has come to my attention that there is some misunderstanding among our Housing Authority neighbors regarding the HUD Rental Assistance Demonstration General Information Letter that was sent out last week. I want to clarify that the Conyers Housing Authority is NOT closing as some have said, NOBODY is being evicted as a result of this intended process, and we are NOT converting our units to a business park as some have posted. We do not expect to lose any of our current residents during or after this process begins, and we will be continuing to serve low income families through HUD. Our intention is to have every one of our residents end up with a new or fully renovated apartment once we complete this process. I’m not sure where the bogus information came from or from who, but it certainly did not come from us. If you need clarification regarding any notices received or if you just want to be better informed please attend the meeting we are hosting regarding this renovation on Monday August 15th. A flyer was posted earlier today on this page and the event will be held at our main office community room on Summer Circle in Conyers. Everyone is welcome, CHA resident or not.
