JEMICA BROWN
J.H. House Elementary School
Ms. Brown has been teaching for 23 years and currently is a Reading and Math Interventionist, a position she has held for six years. She has two sons, one 9th grader and one Army soldier. In her spare time, Ms. Brown enjoys traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
She shared that one of her most rewarding experiences as an educator occurred recently when a fifth-grade student chose her to participate in the social media challenge “Take This Note to a Teacher Who Inspires You.” After thanking the student, Ms. Brown asked what she’d done to inspire him. “You always tell me that I can do it,” the student replied.
This simple statement reminded her the tremendous impact teachers have on their students. She said, “Often, we do not realize how much our encouragement matters - when educators consistently communicate confidence in their students’ abilities, students begin to develop confidence in themselves. A simple phrase of encouragement can become the foundation for a student’s self-belief, perseverance, and success.”
