A tradition that began in 2019 came full circle this week at Barksdale Elementary. Seven years ago, the school invited graduating seniors—once Barksdale Buccaneers themselves—to return for a celebratory walk through the halls, to join the fifth graders of that year.
Those 2019 fifth graders are now the Class of 2026, and they returned in force. Thirty five seniors from 10 different high schools reunited at their old elementary school, creating a moment that blended nostalgia, accomplishment, and community. This year’s group includes a valedictorian, a salutatorian, STAR Students, honors graduates, significant scholarship awards, college acceptances, trade school placements and college bound athletes. For Barksdale, it was more than a walk—it was a celebration of how far their former students have come.
