ARREST MADE IN EARLY MORNING FATAL HIT-AND-RUN INVESTIGATION WITH USE OF FLOCK TECHNOLOGY

(Conyers, GA – August 18, 2026): The Conyers Police Department, in partnership with the Georgia State Patrol, has made an arrest in connection with the fatal hit-and-run on Dogwood Drive that claimed the life of Andrea Cantrell, 43, of Conyers. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Monday, August 17, 2026.

Following the incident, Conyers Police detectives worked alongside the Georgia State Patrol to identify the vehicle and person believed to be involved. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage, conducted detailed investigative analysis, and used the department’s Flock Safety intelligence platform and license plate reader technology to rapidly develop critical leads.

Flock intelligence software played a significant role in this investigation. The technology enabled detectives to quickly access and analyze vehicle information related to the incident. This helped detectives narrow the search, connect investigative leads, and locate the suspected vehicle at a residence on Harvel Street in Conyers.

The timely access to vehicle information significantly enhanced the investigative response and contributed to the identification of a suspect and an arrest within 12 hours of the initial call.

Warrants were secured for Derrick Lydell Mathis, 52, of Oxford, for Homicide by Vehicle. Mathis was located and arrested without incident this morning at a local motel in Conyers.

The Georgia State Patrol is the lead investigating agency in this case. The Conyers Police Department will continue to assist GSP as needed throughout the investigation.

This case demonstrates the importance of strong law-enforcement partnerships, coordinated investigative work, and technology that provides officers with timely information to help protect the community and hold those responsible for serious crimes accountable.

This remains an active investigation, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Conyers Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division or the Georgia State Patrol.

Conyers Police and Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office Announce Human Trafficking Indictment

(Conyers, GA – August 14, 2026)— The Conyers Police Department, in partnership with the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office, announces the indictment and arrest of Tayvion Ringgold, 25, and Kiauni Gilbert, 21, both from Cobb County, on three counts each of Human Trafficking for Sexual Servitude.

The investigation began on March 9, 2026, when a Conyers Police officer conducting an undercover prostitution operation at a local hotel encountered a juvenile who was connected to an online commercial s*x advertisement.

Detectives with the Conyers Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division assumed the investigation and, over the following months, worked closely with the Rockdale County District Attorney’s Office to identify the individuals involved and develop the case.

As a result of the investigation, Ringgold and Gilbert were indicted on three counts of Human Trafficking for Sexual Servitude. On August 5, 2026, both defendants were taken into custody at a hotel in Gwinnett County, Georgia.

The Conyers Police Department would like to thank the Gwinnett County Police Department for its assistance in the safe apprehension of both defendants.
