A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and supported the pork roast on Saturday evening at LVFB Hall. We’re thrilled to announce that you raised $15,000 for the flood relief effort in Cook, with donations still coming in. The funds have been donated to the Cook Lions Club and Cook Fire Relief Association, who continue to provide much-needed support and resources to those affected by the flood.

Your support not only showcases the strength and compassion of our community- it also makes a tangible difference in the lives of our neighbors. We’re deeply grateful.

In response to the devastating flooding our community is facing, our pork roast fundraiser, planned for Saturday, June 22nd at LVFB Hall, will instead be a free community dinner for our friends and neighbors. While the nature of the event has changed, the mission to support our community remains the same. Monetary donations originally intended for the fundraiser are welcomed and will be redirected to disaster relief efforts.

We invite you to come together, share a meal, and take comfort in the company of our community. In addition to a hot meal, there will be kids’ activities and a helicopter landing. Local partner agencies will be in attendance and may provide insight into local emergency response and disaster relief.

We hope you’ll join us in this effort of solidarity and support.

Volunteers with the Lake Vermilion Fire Brigade participate in monthly training to better prepare us to respond to fire, medical, and search-and-rescue emergencies in our community. This month’s training focused on cold-water rescue and was led by Jon Olson from MN North College. In recent months, the Brigade has also trained with Jim Theodore, EMS trainer, paramedic, and fire chief from Mt. Iron. With Jim’s guidance, volunteers practiced with different rescue/survival suits, approaching a victim in the water, applying a C-collar, and boarding a victim. The operators also practiced using our new firefighting nozzle that shoots more than 200 feet!
