Effective immediately the Governor has issued an Executive Order that bans the issuance of Open Burn Permits for 14 days. The Executive Order prohibits any fire chief or person designated by the fire chief from granting an open burn permit for any purpose. Any existing burn permit that has not been completed is null and void and open burning is not permitted for 14 consecutive days beginning now.

This order will be reviewed prior to its termination to determine the need to extend the ban. Further information will be provided prior to that date.

The Executive Order document will be issued later today when all required parties have signed it.

Please feel free to share this message as needed and contact me with any questions.

Thanks
Doug Hohbein

The 2025 Nebraska Fallen Fire and EMS Memorial Service was held at the Nebraska Firefighters Museum in Kearney. Members from Cook and Talmage volunteer fire departments attended the service in which our friend, Paul Wilken, was among those recognized. Many of Paul's beloved family members were in attendance. Paul will be remembered not only for his service to the fire department, but also his contributions to the Cook Rescue Squad and the Cook Rural Fire Board. Thank you, Paul.

On this solemn day we will take time to not only remember the 343 firemen that died on 9/11/2001, but all 2,996 victims of that day and those that died of health related issues from that day. It is also a day to reflect on the lives of Charlie Kirk, Iryna Zarutska, and others across this country who have been senselessly murdered. Most of all, we want to remember and honor the life of Paul Wilken, one of our own that passed away within the last year. God bless them all, and may they rest in peace.
