Meet Iris and other amazing ADOPTABLE dogs at Dogapalooza on Sept. 23!

Both A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) And the Cookeville/Putnam County Animal Shelter are setting up adoption booths during this FREE family-friendly event.

Come celebrate Cookeville's canines with free games and activities for your beloved pup. Or maybe even find a new fur baby to add to your family? 🐾

Dogapalooza is at the Cane Creek Dog Park on Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

------------------------------------

Meet Iris at Dogapalooza on Saturday, Sept 23rd from 10 am - 2 pm CST at Cane Creek Park, 201 C C Camp Rd. Cookeville, TN 38501.

Meet Iris, the German Shorthaired Pointer / Hound mix with a heart of gold, eyes that dazzle & ears so droopy! At just 13 weeks old and 23 pounds of pure puppy pizzazz, Iris is here to fill your heart with puppy adoration. She's not just cute; she's "aww"-inducing, cuddle-loving, and positively adorable! Iris is crate trained and is smart and strong willed. Picture this: a sweet girl who knows how to play with her foster siblings/puppies and charm the big dogs in the house. Toys? She's a fan. Yard? She's a track star. Food? An absolute obsession, making for easy training. Iris is a people person through and through, good with everyone: all adults, kids, other dogs, and cats, too, but plays rough with cats. Her social skills are top-notch, and she's got that "friendly neighborhood dog" vibe that'll make you the talk of the town. And leash walking? Well, she's got to learn the ropes, but she's a pro at being a stellar car companion. If you're an experienced hound owner seeking a loyal partner, she's your girl. This sweet pup will be a faithful, fun-loving companion who'll light up your life with every tail wag and sloppy kiss. Iris is here and she's waiting to fill your days with joy, laughter, and an endless supply of puppy love! Apply to adopt today.

This puppy is in Tennessee. Adoption Donation $250 if picked up in TN, $325 plus transport fee for out of state adoptions.

We have lots of free activities and treats planned for Cookeville’s beloved canines. Free activities include a 1950s soda shop that serves pup cups, a fortune teller who reads paws, and a dog boutique where local dogs can get their glam on.

Alongside the event’s free activities, Dogapalooza also features music, dog-related vendors, and food options for the humans in attendance. During the event, vendor and activity booths will line the path leading to the Cane Creek Dog Park entrance.

We're heartbroken to report that our beloved city parks and facilities have been the targets of vandalism over the Labor Day weekend.

Last night, Monday Sept. 4 at 7:50 p.m; the new sunscreen dispensers at Dogwood Park were broken by vandals. The sunscreen was then taken into the Heart of the City Playground where it was smeared across the ground, swing sets, and wooden siding of the jungle gym.

Also this weekend, a rock was thrown through a window of the Cookeville Depot Museum.

In recent weeks, the Tree of Hope sculpture was damaged by someone. A bird was broken off of the sculpture, and we are working to have it reattached.

We wish we could say these were isolated incidents. Sadly, this is a continuation of destructive behavior that has been damaging our parks and facilities.

We are asking the community to help us put an end to these destructive acts. Our city parks and facilities belong to all of us, and that shared ownership comes with shared responsibility. Please respect community spaces and report when someone is causing them harm.

If you have any information about these acts of vandalism, or if you see someone vandalizing our parks in the future, please call the Leisure Services office at 931-520-4386. Thank you.

It's a lot of fun to feed the ducks and geese at our city parks, but we need to be mindful of WHAT we feed them. Bread, crackers, and potato chips are junk food for waterfowl. They offer little nutritional value and can actually cause painful health problems for our feathered friends.

So what can you feed them instead? Try bringing sliced grapes, frozen peas, bird seed, or uncooked rice or rolled oats the next time you want to feed the water birds.

I hope everyone can make it out to CPAC to see this year's Homeschool Dramatic Society play- America! It is a glimpse into the real-life stories of immigrants to Ellis Island. The play contains international folk dances and songs, and word-for-word interviews of people who came through Ellis Island between 1900-1930. It is powerful and touching to hear the actual words from the immigrants stories about what America means to them and how coming here fulfilled their hopes and dreams. In our country's current state, this is a story about good things and good people who helped shape America.

Hey all! I run a therapeutic horseback riding program for kids and adults with special needs and may be bringing my program to Clarkrange, TN.

I'd like to get an idea of what the need is for services to the special needs community and also summer camps for kids of all abilities. I also have a 17 year old son with Down Syndrome.

Would you bring your child for therapy!? Are there people in the area that would like to volunteer their time as well, to help walk horses during lessons?
