Sergeant Charlotte Austin with Cookeville Police Department has been a coalition member for nearly 2 years. Her current assignment at the Cookeville Police Department is the Community Services Sergeant where she teaches an anti-drug program called Law Enforcement Against Drugs (LEAD) to 4th graders in the City of Cookeville. She is also the brains behind many community events and outreach including National Night Out!
When asked her favorite memory working alongside the coalition, Sgt. Austin said that "Last year I worked the IOAD event alongside POP. I had several people come up to me who I had previously interacted with while working patrol, some of whom I had arrested. They thanked me for how I treated them during our previous interactions. At the end of the day, we are all human. We all make mistakes. We all have good days and we all have bad days. I think treating people with kindness and respect and showing them that there is hope and that someone believes in their ability to do better, even when they don't believe it themselves, is powerful. I want to uplift my community and leave it better when I'm gone."
We are so incredibly thankful to work alongside our law enforcement partners. When we work together, positive impact ripples through our community đź’™
