Growing Together to Better Serve Our Region 🪴

Members of the UCDD team recently attended the Development District Association of Appalachia (DDAA) 2026 Professional Development Seminar in Asheville, North Carolina.

The seminar brought together development district professionals from across the Appalachian region to share ideas, strengthen leadership skills, and explore practical strategies for serving our communities more effectively.

We appreciate opportunities like these that allow our staff to learn from peers, exchange best practices, and return with new ideas to help strengthen the services and support we provide throughout the Upper Cumberland.

The Tennessee Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) is excited to host the inaugural Tennessee State Conference on Aging, taking place Sept. 9-10, 2026, in Murfreesboro. This first-of-its-kind statewide conference will bring together nationally recognized experts, policymakers, providers, advocates, and caregivers to explore innovative solutions, share best practices, and address the evolving needs of Tennessee's aging population.

To help make attendance more accessible, DDA is offering a limited number of scholarships for family caregivers. Scholarship assistance may include conference registration and, based on demonstrated need, one night of hotel accommodations. Submission of an application does not guarantee funding.

If you're a family caregiver interested in attending, we encourage you to learn more and apply.

Please note: This conference and scholarship opportunity are administered by the Tennessee Department of Aging and Disability. For questions about the conference, scholarship eligibility, or the application process, please contact DDA directly.

Yesterday, UCDD and UCHRA staff and guests across our region came together for a simultaneous reading of the Declaration of Independence, with each of our offices joining together to reflect on the words that helped shape our nation's history.

While the Declaration was written nearly 250 years ago, its enduring ideals continue to remind us of the importance of service, opportunity, and the shared responsibility we have to strengthen our communities.

Thank you to everyone who joined us as we took a few moments to honor our nation's past and celebrate the values that continue to inspire our work today.
