Casa Grande Ruins is a fascinating site that shares a part of the history of the Ancestral Desert People who inhabited the land and the structures they built. Today, visitors can walk around the Great House and compound, as well as look at artifacts and exhibits in the museum.
While walking and taking in the sights, please remain aware of your surroundings, such as uneven ground or the occasional lizard or other creature that may run across your path. Be careful when trying to touch vegetation, like cactus and other plants, as many protect themselves with sharp spines and can cause skin irritations.
Enjoy your visit to this great site by learning about its history and staying safe.

As temperatures rise at this time of year, we want to remind visitors to Casa Grande Ruins to be prepared for the temperatures. Wear protective gear, such as hat, long sleeves, sunscreen, as well as having an umbrella available during our later summer season monsoons. The picnic area provides seating and shade for a rest, lunch, or just a break from the sun. Visiting earlier in the day will also help to avoid the afternoon sun’s heat.

Drink lots of water as well. Here at the monument, we don't sell water, however, we do have two drinking fountains with water bottle refill stations. If you wish to purchase water, the local stores in town and just across the street from us will have what you need.

*Remember that only water is allowed in the museum and around the ancestral structures. No other food or beverages are permitted, except in the picnic area.

The season has begun for snakes to be seen in many different areas. Stay aware of your surroundings and if you see one, carefully and quietly give it lots of distance and leave it alone. When they rattle, they are letting you know they are there and that they want to be left alone.

When visiting Casa Grande Ruins there are other forms of wildlife as well, not seen often, but still within the park. To name a few, there are roadrunners, coyotes, javelina, feral dogs, scorpions, and rodents. If you have a sighting of any of these animals while in the park, please let us know.

Wildlife sightings can be exciting if we never harass or bother them. Help us protect desert animals by being respectful and staying a safe distance away.
