Some of you may be wondering what's going on at the lot next to the Coolin fire station. Here is what is happening along with our reasons for it.

Our station is very small and does not hold all of our equipment. It has very limited storage, and it has no training room. At present, our water tender, rescue truck, two trailer-mounted diesel water pumps, and some small equipment are all stored outside.

Our water tender truck has to be decommissioned every fall and stored outside for winter, as we cannot fit it in the station. This leaves us with limited water shuttling capability from November through March, and with very few hydrants in our area, we rely on tenders and folding tanks to provide water for fire suppression.

We currently have no training room - just the small apparatus bay and a small watch office. Our new station will have a training room and eventually a couple of bunk rooms and a kitchen. We are planning both for our current needs and for the future of this area, which is continuing to grow.

At present, we have the lot cleared. Soon the timber and brush will be gone, and we will begin site prep. You will see a lot of activity on our lot for the next year as we move forward with increasing our capabilities to provide for our growing community.

Please direct any questions or concerns to me, and thank you for the support!

Sincerely,

Dave LaTourette
Fire Chief

We encourage everyone to learn from the disaster in Spokane and have ready bags or go bags in your vehicles containing whatever you might need for three days. There is a lot of information on preparing such bags online.
