NARCOTICS SEARCH WARRANT RESULTS IN ARREST

On Saturday, August 22, 2026, at approximately 8:32 a.m., deputies with the Delta County Sheriff’s Office executed a narcotics search warrant at an apartment complex in the 100 block of Highway 64.

During the search, deputies located suspected methamphetamine, ma*****na, and drug paraphernalia. Deputies arrested 39-year-old Cooper resident Justin Jester, who was booked into the Hopkins County Jail on the following charges:

• Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, Less Than One Gram
• Possession of Ma*****na Under Two Ounces
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to aggressively investigating illegal drug activity and removing dangerous drugs from our community. Regardless of the amount involved, illegal drugs damage families, contribute to other criminal activity, and threaten the safety and quality of life of our citizens.

We will continue working diligently to identify those involved in illegal drug activity and hold them accountable. We also appreciate the citizens who provide information and help us protect Delta County.

UPDATE

MEDICAL CALL LEADS TO SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

On Monday, August 24, 2026, shortly after 8 a.m., Delta County deputies responded to assist fire and emergency medical personnel near Southeast 2nd Street and East Paris Avenue.

The original call was dispatched as an unknown medical emergency. After arriving, first responders discovered a 54-year-old man suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was transported to CHRISTUS Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Deputies secured the location, and criminal investigators with the Delta County Sheriff’s Office began processing the scene. The Texas Rangers were requested to provide additional investigative assistance.

We understand that a shooting in our community can cause concern. Based on the information currently available, investigators believe this was an isolated incident. There is no known ongoing threat to the public or our community.

The investigation remains active. To protect its integrity, some details cannot be released at this time. We ask for the public’s patience and understanding while investigators work to determine the complete circumstances surrounding this unfortunate incident.

TEAMWORK AND K-9 DEPLOYMENT LEAD TO ARREST OF WRONG-WAY DRIVER

On Monday, August 3, 2026, shortly after 9 p.m., Delta County Sheriff’s Office deputies were alerted by a concerned motorist that a pickup was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of North State Highway 24.
Deputies immediately coordinated their response, located the vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of North State Highway 24 and FM 2949. Their quick response and teamwork brought the dangerous situation to a safe conclusion before a serious collision occurred.
The driver, identified as 40-year-old Honey Grove resident Chad Sandifer, allegedly showed signs of impairment during the traffic stop. After he refused to perform standardized field sobriety tests, deputies detained him on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Sandifer also refused consent to search the vehicle. The Delta County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Team was deployed, and the K-9 gave a positive alert indicating the possible presence of narcotics. During the resulting probable-cause search, deputies reportedly recovered a THC v**e device, suspected Penalty Group 2 and Penalty Group 3 controlled substances, and two loaded fi****ms.
Sandifer, who was reported to have a previous DWI conviction, was arrested on the following charges:
• Two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 3, less than 28 grams
• One count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2, one gram or more but less than four grams
• One count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2, less than one gram
• Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon
• Driving While Intoxicated—Second Offense
Sandifer was booked into the Hopkins County Jail and is being held on bonds totaling $51,000.

42-year-old Kimberly Johnson has been arraigned and is being held at the Hopkins County Jail on a $50,000 bond on a Felony 2 charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, in an amount of four grams or more but less than 200 grams.

SEARCH WARRANT LEADS TO DRUG SEIZURE AND ARREST

On Monday, August 3, 2026, shortly after 5:30 p.m., members of the Delta County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 1300 block of West Dallas Avenue in Cooper.

During the search, deputies recovered loaded syringes containing a clear liquid believed to be methamphetamine. Deputies also seized additional suspected methamphetamine and items of drug paraphernalia.

A 42-year-old Cooper woman was taken into custody and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, in an amount of four grams or more but less than 200 grams. She was booked into the Hopkins County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.

Deputy Injured While Investigating 911 Hang-Up Call

Today, a Delta County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured while responding to and investigating a 911 hang-up call.

During the investigation, the deputy made contact with the resident at the location. While speaking with the homeowner, an unsecured door to the residence allowed the homeowner’s dog to exit the home and bite the deputy.

The deputy received medical evaluation and treatment for the injury and is expected to make a full recovery.

In accordance with standard procedure, the dog has been placed under quarantine pending verification of its vaccination records and the completion of the investigation. The incident remains under review.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the concern and support shown for our deputy. We are thankful the injuries were not more serious and wish our deputy a speedy recovery.

No further information will be released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.

He is doing a summer exchange program selling educational books and apps for families from young toddler all the way to college prep. This is Gustavs first week in Delta County, so if you see him, don't be shy. Show him our Delta County Hospitality. Gustav is legit and has acquired his vendor's permit approved by the City of Cooper.
