CONFIRMED MEASLES CASE IDENTIFIED IN OTSEGO COUNTY

The Otsego County Department of Health (OCDOH) is investigating a confirmed case of measles in an unvaccinated resident. The resident is currently recovering at home.

OCDOH is working closely with the New York State Department of Health and local healthcare providers to identify potential exposures and notify individuals who may have been exposed. Anyone who may have been exposed will be contacted with guidance on what to do. To protect the privacy of the individual, additional identifying information will not be released.

Measles is a highly contagious respiratory illness that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left an area. People who are not immune to measles can become infected after being exposed.
