The Charleston Seafood Festival is almost here!

Join us on Saturday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Charleston Visitor Center for a celebration of local seafood, South Coast businesses, and community spirit.

This year's festival will feature fresh local seafood, Oregon breweries and wineries, family-friendly activities, raffle prizes, live entertainment, local vendors, and more. Participating businesses include favorites such as 7 Devils Brewery, Monkey Business Food to Go, Davey Jones' Locker, Lucky Landings Guide Service, Dave's Salsa, Knute's Rockfish & Chowder, Captain Johns Fisherman's Wharf, and many others.

Best of all, the event supports the Charleston Food Bank and Charleston Visitor Center.

One of our favorite parts of Wednesdays in downtown Coos Bay? Seeing community organizations connect with people at the Farmers Market right outside our doors.

Today we're giving a shout-out to the Coos Watershed Association where Port CEO Lanelle Comstock serves on the Board of Directors and is working the Coos Bay Farmers Market booth today.

Since 1994, the Association has worked with local residents, landowners, and partners to improve watershed health through science, restoration, education, and collaboration.

As summer gets underway and seasonal guests begin arriving on the South Coast, Toby and Christina will be helping welcome visitors, support guests, and share all that makes Charleston such a special place to stay and explore.

Big conversations today in North Bend and Reedsport as community members gathered for town halls with Senator Ron Wyden and Congresswoman Val Hoyle.

The Pacific Coast Intermodal Port (PCIP) project was a major topic of discussion, with strong engagement and support from members of the building trades and community. Senator Wyden described the project as a model for the nation — highlighting not only the tremendous job creation potential, but also the broader multiplier impact strategic infrastructure investments can have on quality of life, housing, workforce training, and the long-term well-being of rural communities.

Thank you to everyone who participated in today’s conversations and continues to stay engaged as the project moves forward.

Today was budget day for the Port and Coos Bay Rail Line — an important step in supporting the operations, maintenance, and future planning of critical infrastructure on Oregon’s South Coast.

There’s always a tremendous amount of work happening behind the scenes to pull a budget together, and a big thank you goes to our Finance team, Port leadership, and volunteer Budget Committee members for the many hours of preparation, coordination, and public service that helped make today possible!

On the water. On the ground. And moving forward.

In the past week, we advanced the Pacific Coast Intermodal Port (PCIP) project by engaging partners at every level of government, starting right here in Coos Bay.

Port commissioners and the PCIP project team hosted senior staff from the U.S. Department of Transportation, including Chief of Staff Pete Meachum, Congresswoman Val Hoyle, and her team, as well as representatives from the Governor’s Office for an on-the-water tour of the proposed project site and surrounding infrastructure.

Also, this week in Washington D.C., PCIP Executive Director Melissa Cribbins joined national leaders at a Build America Bureau Public-Private Partnerships (P3) Forum—continuing conversations about how projects like PCIP can help strengthen the country’s national supply chain network.

And in Portland, we provided an update to regional maritime and export stakeholders at the Maritime Commerce Club’s annual State of the Ports breakfast—continuing our history of collaboration with public ports across the Pacific Northwest.

All of this builds on the recent $11.25 million federal PIDP grant supporting critical rail infrastructure for the project.

This is what progress looks like: coordinated work across local, state, and federal partners to position Coos Bay as a critical ship-to-rail gateway on the West Coast.
