Fire Season on CFPA-Protected Lands Begins June 1st, 2026

Fire season on lands protected by Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) District begins Monday, June 1st, at 12:01 a.m. The fire danger level will be “LOW” (green) and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) will be level 1 (one) district wide.

Lands affected by this declaration include state, private, county, city and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) forestlands in Coos, Curry and Western Douglas counties.
Beginning on Monday, the burning of debris piles and the use of burn barrels for burning debris will no longer be allowed in Coos, Curry and Western Douglas counties. Public Regulated Use Restriction “low” (green) will also be in effect.

The activity today around our Fire Station 1 is a hiring process to fill our current open position for Firefighter/ Engineer. We have 10 applicants testing today. The process includes a physical abilities test, pump operations test, a basic EMS patient care test and interviews. Charleston Fire sends thanks to our interview panel members for taking time from their day to sit on our panel. They represent different agencies in the Coos County area.

Fire Season 2026 begins June 1, 2026 at 12:01 AM. All burning permits through the Charleston Fire District are terminated at that time. For more information please see Coos FPA.

For burn complaints during fire season please contact Coos Forest Patrol at 541-267-3161 to report them. If the fire appears to more than a debris fire, dial 9-1-1 and report it.
