This week, we proudly and joyfully celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week—a momentous occasion to acknowledge the heroic voices behind the scenes who stand ready when it matters most. To all telecommunications specialists and dispatchers, thank you for being the beacon of calm, that first voice in someone's most fearful moment in life, the reassuring presence in someone's darkest hour. You are the true first, first responder. You answer every call. You answer with empathy, strength, courage, compassion and expertise. Your efforts may often go unnoticed, but they are deeply cherished, respected and appreciated. Lives are impacted and often saved because of your tireless efforts, through long work hours and training. From every group of people you serve and every unknown family you've helped, thank you for all that you do, today and every day.

🚒 House Fire Response – 1693 Hayes Street 🚒

At approximately 12:17 p.m. today, the North Bend Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at 1693 Hayes Street. Fortunately, the residence was unoccupied at the time of the fire, other than a dog and a cat.

Firefighters were able to safely rescue both animals from the home and provide initial medical attention. A special thank you to Bay Cities Ambulance personnel, who immediately provided oxygen therapy and additional emergency care to the pets. Both animals are being transported to a local veterinary clinic for further medical treatment.

We are grateful to report that no human injuries occurred as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature. North Bend Fire Department extends its appreciation to all first responders and partners who worked together to ensure the best possible outcome.

Update (Sept. 8, 2025): North Bend Fire Chief Jim Brown reports both pets are expected to make a full recovery. A huge shoutout to Bay Cities Ambulance Paramedic Saul Soto, EMT Paramedic Student Sam Hultgren, Paramedic Steven Lozano, EMT Katy Buehner, and Paramedic Student Jake Galdsten.

We LOVE our furry friends 🐶 and when they visit they get all the pets and puppy cuddles. A little hard to snuggle these Lil' Ladies, Arya and Zyra, though we sure tried! These big girls are almost 3 year old Great Danes and belong to our Paramedic Matt. 🤩
