UPDATE: 6/1/26 11:00 Half Moon Bay Fire, 1 mile south west Wi******er Bay, OR.
Half Moon Bay Fire is contained to .41 of an acre. Resources have worked diligently through the morning to extinguish a large drift wood pile and surrounding fire spread. Crews will remain on scene throughout the day to complete mop up and continue to extinguish hot spots within the containment area.

Fire Season on CFPA-Protected Lands Begins June 1st, 2026

Fire season on lands protected by Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA) District begins Monday, June 1st, at 12:01 a.m. The fire danger level will be “LOW” (green) and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level (IFPL) will be level 1 (one) district wide.

Lands affected by this declaration include state, private, county, city and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) forestlands in Coos, Curry and Western Douglas counties.
Beginning on Monday, the burning of debris piles and the use of burn barrels for burning debris will no longer be allowed in Coos, Curry and Western Douglas counties. Public Regulated Use Restriction “low” (green) will also be in effect.

Coos Forest Protective Association hosted our second annual EMS and REMs training day focused on emergency response skills for wildland firefighters. The day covered basic EMS protocols, emphasizing patient assessment and stabilization techniques. Participants practiced the 8 LINE medical evacuation format to ensure efficient and accurate communication during emergencies. Training also included hands-on instruction in patient packaging for transport, as well as an emphasis on rope rescue operations.

CAL-ORE Life Flight and the U.S. Coast Guard provided demonstrations of their aircraft and medical capabilities, showing how these resources support emergency extraction and transport during incidents in challenging terrain. The day concluded with U.S. Coast Guard hoist demonstrations, preparing personnel for safe and effective extractions.

Although we are not in fire season yet, the weather is getting warmer and dryer. We are asking the public to please use caution when burning outdoors. By using these tips to practice safe debris burning you can help prevent an accidental wildfire.

- Keep water and tools nearby
-Dont burn on dry windy days
-Dont leave your debris burn unattended
-Make sure your fire is completely out and cool to the touch before you leave.

There is no set date for fire season to start in the Coos Forest Protective Association district for 2026 as of yet.

Tomorrow Friday, May 1st CFPA, Bandon Rural Fire, and other agencies will be conducting cranberry bog burns in the Randolph rd, North of Bandon. Burning will begin around 10AM. Smoke may be visable from Bandon, Hwy 101, and surrounding areas. Resources will remain on scene until fire operations are complete.

Tanner Creek Fire 02/06/2026

CFPA, BLM, and Land owner resources responded to a report of Fire near Sandy Creek, Coos County on Feb 4th, 2026.
A fire was found approximately 30-35 acres burning in Slash and Timber. Resources have worked to contain the fire, forward spread has been stopped at this time around 50 acres. Resources will remain on scene extinguishing the fires perimeter.

There are no homes threatened.

This is a good reminder that even though we are in February the weather has been supportive to fire spread with higher than normal temperatures and lower humidity.
