Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Trooper Chad Walker and the men and women of the Texas Department of Public Safety. Walker's sacrifice will not be forgotten. May he rest in peace.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that DPS announces the passing of Trooper Chad Walker. Trooper Walker is a hero who bravely served his community. He died following injuries sustained while on patrol.

A beloved father and husband, Trooper Walker was one of DPS’ finest. His dedication to duty and his selfless sacrifice, in both life and his death, will never be forgotten.

Burglary PSA - Lock Your Vehicles and Remove Valuables

Many have seen our videos urging our citizens to remove valuables from their vehicles(including garage remotes). The vast majority of burglaries in Coppell involve unlocked vehicles. Security gates alone are not enough to deter criminals. You still need to do your part to reduce crime. Nine burglaries in one night and none of them involved forced entry. Please watch the video.

Oncor

As of 9:00 a.m., there are approximately 9,000 remaining outages from the cold weather and lack of generation impacts experienced earlier this week. We expect remaining customers will be restored today.

Personnel have also restored power to more than 51,000 customers impacted by an ice storm that blanketed our eastern region of Palestine, Lufkin and Nacogdoches and our southern region of Killeen, Round Rock and Temple late Wednesday and Thursday, with 40,000 outages remaining. We expect the majority of storm restoration to be complete in these areas Sunday.

Please note that Oncor’s online Storm Center map identifies all current outages throughout our service area, which serves more than 10 million Texans in more than 400 communities, making up nearly one-third of the state’s geographic area. Oncor constantly responds to new power outages from a variety of issues throughout the state. It is important to distinguish the cold weather/storm-related outages of this week from separate outage events.

Apparently, we are still having people walking on the frozen ponds at our parks. Please parents, tell your kiddos to stay off the ice. It is just not safe. Help us spread the word.

We ask parents to caution their children to avoid playing on the frozen ponds in our local parks and neighborhoods. The ice is not safe and could break beneath them. Thank you for your assistance. #BetterTogether, #OneCommunity

PSA: Do NOT use a grill, oven, stove or similar to heat your home. On top of being a fire hazard, Carbon Monoxide (CO), known as the "invisible killer," is produced by burning fuel in cars or trucks, small engines, stoves, lanterns, grills, fireplaces, gas ranges, portable generators and furnaces. When the gas builds up in enclosed spaces, people or animals who breathe it can be poisoned, sometimes fatally.

🚫 Coppell is NOT under a water boil notice 🚫
While many of our neighbors are being asked to boil water, the City of Coppell is NOT under a boil water notice. There are currently about 400,000 residents without power in the Oncor system. An estimated 2,600 Coppell residents are without power.

Here’s the latest update, direct from Oncor:
02.17.21, 8 pm: “Even with increased capability, we still have many customers who are still experiencing extended outages. We continue to strive toward providing any temporary relief that we can for those who have been without power the longest. Due to lowered power demand last night, Oncor and other utilities were able to restore some of the previously dropped power load and increased our capability to rotate some outages throughout the territory. We gained some MWs (megawatts) overnight but are back to ERCOT required load shed.

“While weather impacts are ongoing, personnel and out of state mutual assistance contractors were staged across the territory before the storm and are now actively engaged in restoration efforts. These personnel are well experienced in working in extreme weather conditions and will be working around the clock to assess damages, clear debris and repair damaged equipment.”

The City is requesting that residents and businesses only use water when necessary. This request is due to a combination of electric power impacts to our pumping facilities and the power and weather impacts to our provider, Dallas Water Utilities. At this point, the City is still able to continue to provide water to all customers, but we need your help in ensuring that continues!
