Happy 56th Earth Day from Friends of Coppell Nature Park!
This Earth Day we wanted to highlight one of our main missions - Restoration. We are restoring native prairies and establishing new prairies at the Coppell Nature Park. Part of our restoration efforts includes planting native wildflowers and native grasses!
These are 3 of our favorite species of native wildflowers, which our talented crochet artist and friend, Sowjanya, has made into a wildflower bouquet:
Lemon Beebalm 💜
- 2-4 stacked whorls of purple blooms
- Smells like lemons when leave or flower is rubbed
- Bees love it, hence the name
- Part of the mint family
Black Eyed Susan 🤎
- Dark brown to almost black center with bright yellow long petals
- Butterflies love them
- State flower of Maryland
- Part of the sunflower family
Prairie Coneflower 💛
- Long column flower head, which can be green to brown, with drooping small petals
- Comes in many variations - petals can be yellow or red or red with yellow ends
- Resembles a Sombrero Hat
- Part of the sunflower and daisy family
