Association of Texas EMS Professionals

Whole Blood saves lives! The Association of Texas EMS Professionals is encouraging all Texas EMS providers to #FillTheBlood of their local blood centers before the end of August.

In 2019, North Texas Regional EMS (NTREMS) became the first Texas EMS system to add whole blood to every ambulance.

The blood is stored in a portable BloodBoxx™ EMS thermal protection container and all NTREMS Paramedics are trained in its administration. This makes whole blood an immediate treatment option once its need is recognized.

The NTREMS model reveals that modern technology and training exists for expanded prehospital implementation. Expansion is most constricted by the availability of whole blood.

Texas Recognizes Emergency Services Dispatchers as First Responders - EmComm Brief

We are proud to see that Governor Abbott signed this into state law. Texas now recognizes that 9-1-1 emergency dispatchers provide critical and life-saving services for the public and are considered first responders. Thank you to our emergency medical dispatchers and congrats on getting recognized for the vital role you play in public safety!

Governor Greg Abbott signs HB1090 into law On Monday June 10, 2019, Governor Greg Abbott of Texas signed House Bill 1090 into law. Every Medic, Every Unit: in emergency medicine, there are few things as urgent as the need for a life-saving blood transfusion for a patient that needs it.

North Texas Regional EMS is the only service in the metroplex to carry cold-stored, low-titer O+ whole blood on every unit.

When patients need blood, they can't afford to wait.

We were honored to be asked to participate in a reenactment of a drunk-driving accident with multiple fatalities. The Aubrey Independent School District Police did a fantastic job putting this together. Thanks for letting us help out!

Today, Aubrey Independent School District Police produced a reenactment of an accident scene with multiple fatalities caused by a drunk driver.

Chief Scott Collins of the Aubrey ISD Police organized the reenactment for the Aubrey High School student body and scheduled it a day before the school prom.

“We care about our kids,” Collins said. “If we save one life from a drinking and driving accident around prom time or any other time by showing the kids the impact this stuff can make, that’s what we need to do as educators.”

Agencies that assisted in the reenactment included Aubrey Fire Department, Pilot Point Fire Department, Texas Highway Patrol, North Texas Regional EMS and PHI Med 10. Denton County, Texas Judge Mike Oglesby acted as justice of the peace to pronounce students dead.

Slay Memorial Funeral Center participated as the office of the medical examiner. Motorsports Towing donated cars.

O(+) Really? Life-saving whole blood, now on every NTREMS ambulance. Every responding unit carries low-titer O+ and is ready to begin emergency transfusion as soon as they arrive. This makes NTREMS the first EMS provider (ground) to carry whole blood on every responding unit. Being a leader in critical care means bringing whole blood to the patient's bedside... because the patients that need blood can't afford to wait.

First impressions are a serious business: clinical excellence starts with a phone call, as NTREMS dispatchers field emergency requests in our 24/7 communications center. Also responsible for dispatching the closest ambulance, dispatchers make sure our medics are safe, on time, and at the right location. It might look easy, but our communications team are in a career where mistakes can be unforgiving, calls are never predictable, and every shift will demand superhuman multitasking abilities. We are proud of our dispatchers, who are calm and professional while creating order from chaos.

We are excited to announce the 5k goal has been MET and EXCEEDED, thanks to your generosity. As of the time of this update, we now show $7,215 has been raised for John's funeral expenses. We are both amazed and humbled by the outpouring of support over the last couple of days.

There is still time to donate, although the window is closing soon. We will be ending this campaign on Sunday, October 28th at 3pm. Our plan is to hand-deliver a check for the entire GoFundMe amount (plus NTREMS matching funds) to the family on Monday night.

On behalf of John's family, friends, and NTREMS coworkers, thank you. Thank you for helping us memorialize John Neal in this way. From the financial support, words of encouragement, cards, flowers, calls, text messages, and every other form of support received, words fail to communicate just how much we appreciate each of you right now.

North Texas Regional EMS is proud to announce the deployment of our new sepsis protocol. In addition to other cutting edge, evidence-based treatments, we’re now one of the first private EMS agencies in Texas to have the ability to administer pre-hospital IV antibiotic therapy! Our aggressive approach to sepsis care will save lives, and is a continuation of our constant clinical growth.

We are setting the standard in critical care transport in North Texas, and are supported by our amazing medical director Dr. Adam Corley at MedCon Medical Services. He believes in practicing at the top of our license, and, most importantly, gives us the education and training to do so!

You may also see our crews trialing the Philips Lumify portable ultrasound unit in the coming weeks! Bringing point-of-care imaging to the bedside in a patient’s critical moments is another step we’re taking to provide true critical care medicine.

Last night, tornados hit our hometown - Emory, TX. John and I used to work on the ambulance in Rains County years ago, and volunteered as firefighters here. We grew up here. Yesterday after watching what was happening on the news / social media, we made a few phone calls, found out some help was needed, and we loaded up our trucks and headed to Emory.

Some of us here have been a part of disaster related incidents before, but it's honestly different when it's your home town. You know who lives in those houses. You've had breakfast with them at the Y'all Come Back years ago. Your parents go to church with them. They are family. Some people lost everything they have, and some further South of us lost family members.

I just want to thank all of our crews yesterday for helping. They didn't have to drop everything, to drive 90 miles to East Texas to help our families, but they did. Thank you to Jeff, Rowdie for going with John and me to East Texas. Thank you to Brandon for helping get us in touch with the correct people. Thanks to Evan, Adam, John, Dawne, and Ashley for handling everything perfectly while we were gone. Thank you ALL for being part of our family here at North Texas Regional EMS. I'm so very proud.

Thank you to Rockwall County EMS for sending a crew out to East Texas with us. You guys didn't have to do that, and you did it, no questions asked. Thanks to Darcy and Martin for staying out there until late last night.

You guys are the best, and make me proud to be a part of North Texas Regional EMS.

-- Jason Jones, COO, North Texas Regional EMS
