It was a joy to be there for the ribbon-cutting for the reiteration of this classic, Coral Gables institution, John Martin’s, and a privilege to stand next to original owner, Martin Lynch, on this special day. Thank you to Alexis Mantecon, , and Erick Passo for having this vision and executing it. So many of us our thankful for bringing this classic back to life.

Thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for this nation, especially my little sister, Captain Patricia Fors, U.S. Army (U.S. Military Academy at West Point '13).

Wonderful and deserving tribute for Commissioner Rebeca Sosa last evening. This woman has given our community 32 years of selfless public service. Her list of contributions to the district is too long to read and unmatched. It will be impossible to fill her shoes.

Had a blast welcoming residents to our City of Coral Gables bi-annual recycling event. Many fist bumps were exchanged. Thank you to Marlin Ebbert for dreaming this up and sticking to it year after year.

Just checked-in to our City of Coral Gables state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center, which is currently at a Level 2 activation. We are thankful this event will not require further escalation but our thoughts are with our neighbors to the north who are facing the full force of Hurricane Ian. Thank you to city staff for remaining on call regardless of the threat level.

All Miami-Dade County Public Schools, as well as Region and District offices, will be CLOSED Wednesday, 9/28, and Thursday, 9/29, in an abundance of caution. A decision about the status of schools for Friday, 9/30, has not been made at this point. Updates will be provided.

Pleased to announce the implementation of my "Silver Permit Program" idea, which all my colleagues on the commission supported. Residents 72 or older, as well as veterans and disabled persons, will now receive expedited review of various types of permit applications (plans to be processed within five (5) business days). Time is precious-- I hope this program allows our senior residents to perform improvements and repairs to their homes faster.

This morning I was honored to give introductory remarks at the International Association of Fire Fighters Partnership Education Conference, where we welcomed Firefighters from all over the County and different parts of the country, including International President, Ed Kelly from the Boston Fire Department and Secretary Frank Lima from the Los Angeles Fire Department. Thank you to Lt. David Perez and IAFF Local 1210 for the invite!
