It is with deep regret and profound sadness that the Coram Fire Department announces the passing of 46-year member and Ex-Chief James Wood.

Chief Wood proudly served the Coram community in The Truck Company where he rose to the rank of Captain, before being elected Chief, eventually serving 2 stints as Chief of the Coram Fire Department, finishing his second term in 2005. He continued to be active in the fire service and a mainstay around the Firehouse right up until his passing.

Chief Wood’s legacy will forever be defined by the qualities that made him such a respected and beloved leader: fairness, humility, compassion, and a true commitment to servant leadership.

He treated everyone with dignity and respect, always willing to listen, lend a hand, and put the needs of others before his own. His leadership was never about titles or recognition—it was about serving his members, his department, and his community with integrity and dedication.

Today, members of the Coram Fire Department proudly honored the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Through the laying of wreaths and the placement of memorial flags, we remember and pay tribute to all those who served and defended the freedoms we enjoy every day. Their courage, sacrifice, and dedication will never be forgotten.

This Memorial Day, we ask our community to join us in reflecting on the true meaning of the holiday and honoring the heroes who gave everything for our country.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
