đź’™THE BEAT GOES ON đź«€

We applaud the signing of Greg Moyer’s Law by the Governor, marking a major step forward in protecting student athletes and strengthening emergency preparedness across Pennsylvania.

This important legislation requires AEDs to be available at school sporting events and practices, mandates CPR/AED certification for coaches, and encourages schools to maintain cardiac emergency response plans. These measures will help save lives when every second counts.

An accessible AED, a well-practiced emergency plan, and individuals confident enough to act can make the difference between life and death during a sudden cardiac emergency.

We also recognize the continued efforts of the Peyton Walker Foundation and the Huddle For Hearts initiative for their leadership and advocacy in advancing heart-safe schools and communities throughout Pennsylvania.

If your school, athletic organization, or community has questions regarding Greg Moyer’s Law, AED requirements, emergency preparedness planning, or CPR/AED training opportunities, Valley Ambulance Authority is committed to supporting community education and readiness efforts.

We’re grateful to be included in recent news coverage highlighting the challenges facing EMS across Allegheny County. Our organization is just one voice among many agencies experiencing the same pressures.

At VAA, we are actively working to address gaps in funding tied to our subscription model. Currently, only about one in four households participates, which limits its overall impact. We continue to advocate for direct reimbursement from insurers. At this time, Highmark does not provide direct payment, and since June 2025, more than $100,000 in payments has gone uncollected when reimbursement checks are sent to patients and not forwarded to the Authority.

We are thankful for Moon Township for their continued support. For the second consecutive year, their $1.00 per capita contribution helps fund critical equipment used directly in service to our community.

EMS is an essential service. It requires a funding model that reflects that reality.

Allegheny County Council unanimously voted Tuesday to advance a grant program to help struggling emergency medical providers pay for equipment repairs and upgrades. The proposal, introduced by Councilwoman Suzanne Filiaggi, would allow the 32 members of the County EMS Council to apply for grants of ...

Today we dropped off some donuts for our amazing dispatchers 🍩

It’s a small gesture, but it doesn’t come close to matching everything they do for us day in and day out. They’re the calm in the chaos, the steady voice on the other end of the radio, and the ones who keep everything moving when seconds matter most.

Behind every call, every response, and every outcome — there’s a dispatcher making it happen.

We appreciate you more than words can say. Thank you for always having our backs. 💛🚑

Chief Herskovitz continues to advocate to the Bureau of EMS and state lawmakers on the critical condition of EMS services across the Commonwealth.

There is an urgent need for a long-term, sustainable funding model that supports EMS and ensures we can continue serving our communities. Without meaningful action, the future of EMS as we know it will be gone.
