Coraopolis Station Project

Coraopolis Station Project The Coraopolis Station Project will follow the restoration of the P&LE passenger station at Mill Street and Neville in Coraopolis, PA.

Welcome to The Coraopolis Station Project page! Our goal is to restore the Coraopolis Station back to a beautiful state. We can do that with community support. In September of 2006, the Coraopolis Community Development Foundation (CCDF) purchased the long-neglected P&LE passenger station at Mill Street and Neville Way in Coraopolis, PA. A wonderful example of Richardson Romanesque , the C

oraopolis Station was built by the firm of Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge, successors of Henry Hobson Richardson, and completed in about 1894. The station was listed in the National Register of Historic Places (79002156) in 1978, but sadly has been exposed to the elements for years due to a deteriorating roof. Our goal for this project is to restore the building for use as a multipurpose community center. Expected uses include a café and, in partnership with the Coraopolis Historical Society, a local museum and repository of photos and other memorabilia of its past. It should also be noted that the town itself is the terminus of the Montour Trail, a stretch of the Rails to Trails network which runs from Coraopolis to Hendersonville, and the completed station would be a wonderful stop and visitors’ center for cyclists passing through Coraopolis. We invite you to follow the transformation and welcome anyone who is interested to join our efforts!

Dan will be truly missed by all of us who had the privilege of working alongside him. His legacy lives on in the walls he helped restore, the projects he strengthened, and the friendships he built along the way.

Please keep his family and loved ones in your thoughts as we remember and honor him.

It’s Giving Tuesday—a day when generosity transforms communities, and we’re inviting you to be part of preserving the historic Coraopolis Train Station.

Over the past few years, we’ve been steadily breathing new life into our beloved Coraopolis Train Station—a landmark that has stood for more than a century as part of our town’s story.

Thanks to the generosity of donors and private grants, we’ve made incredible strides in 2025:

✅ Completed the Northside Overhangs
✅ Leveled and insulated the crawl space
✅ Installed a brand-new subfloor
✅ Finished major exterior improvements

Each milestone brings us closer to reopening this historic treasure as a vibrant hub for our community. And we’re not stopping here—our sights are set on beginning interior restoration in 2026.
This project is possible only because of the generous support of people like you who believe in preserving history while building a stronger future for Coraopolis.

💙 On this Giving Tuesday, we invite you to join us in keeping the momentum alive. Your gift helps ensure that this station—once a gateway to our town—becomes a gathering place for generations to come.

🚧✨ Station Restoration Update ✨🚧

One of the final steps in completing the exterior of the Coraopolis Train Station was redoing the northside overhangs. This was no small feat—it required careful planning so the work will seamlessly connect with the future canopy once we move into that phase of the project.

The momentum continues! Next up: finishing the roof on this side and then moving on to windows and doors. Every milestone brings us closer to reopening this historic landmark as a vibrant hub for our community.

🚶‍♂️ Took a stroll down to the station today to admire the beautiful new pavers installed this week — they look fantastic! A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the campaign and helped make this happen. 🙌

The momentum has stayed strong throughout 2025: we’ve completed the interior crawl space with new concrete, insulation, and lighting. Plus, we've begun laying down a solid subfloor. Next up, we’re gearing up to order and install new windows to bring even more light and life into the space. 🌟

Grateful for every hand, heart, and dollar that’s helped move this project forward. Onward!
