Last Friday, 5/8/2026, Crisp County Fire Rescue officially welcomed the newest addition to our fleet, Engine 51. A push-in ceremony was held at
Station 5, where fire department personnel, department leaders, and the Board of Commissioners celebrated the placing-in-service of this new Engine.

The push-in ceremony honors a fire department tradition of pushing-in horse drawn engines back into fire houses after calls in the old times. Today, it is a symbol of pride and commitment.

The new engine, purchased through SPLOST funds, represents a significant investment in firefighter safety, operational readiness, and emergency response capabilities. Equipped with updated technology, enhanced safety features, and modern firefighting equipment, the apparatus will help improve service delivery and support firefighters in protecting lives and property throughout the community.

The department expresses appreciation to the Board of Commissioners for their continued support of public safety initiatives and infrastructure improvements.

🔥Now that the Burn Ban for Crisp County has lifted, we want to remind everyone about outdoor burning regluations.

For hand-piled natural vegetation/yard debris, no permit is required. However you are required to follow these regulations:

🌳Spacing must be 25+ feet between fire and woodlands

🏠Spacing must be 50+ feet between fire and structures

🌞Burning is only allowed from sunrise to sunset

🙋‍♂️Fire must be attended by a responsible person on-site until the fire is extinguished

🧯You must have/use reasonable precautions–tools/measures in place to prevent escaped fire (water hose, rake, fire break, not burning on High Fire/ Red Flag Warning days).

Remember, it is unlawful to burn man-made material such as household garbage, lumber or plastic.

🚜For agriculture, silviculture, land-clearing burns and vegetative storm debris, burners are required to contact Georgia Forestry Commssion to provide notification and obtain a permit.

🔥 Burn Ban Update: Crisp County is no longer under a burn ban.

We ask that everyone follow safe burning practices and continue to monitor weather and drought conditions.

🔥 Update: South Georgia Burn Restrictions Eased

Governor Kemp has issued an executive order easing outdoor burning restrictions in parts of South Georgia.

While this is a step in the right direction, burning is still restricted in 17 South Georgia counties, as shown on the map below. These areas continue to face extreme drought and elevated wildfire risk.

⚠️ What to know:
➡️ Some counties are now allowed to resume limited outdoor burning
➡️ Others remain under restrictions due to ongoing fire danger
➡️ Conditions can change quickly—always check before you burn

Even where restrictions have been eased, extreme caution is still critical. Dry conditions remain across much of the state, and it only takes one spark to start a wildfire.

We appreciate everyone doing their part to help reduce wildfire risk across Georgia.

BURN BAN IN EFFECT FOR CRISP COUNTY

🔥 URGENT: Outdoor Burn Ban Issued for South Georgia
Due to worsening drought conditions and rising wildfire activity, Georgia’s State Forester has issued a mandatory ban on outdoor burning for 91 counties in the lower half of the state.
This is the first mandatory burn ban in Georgia Forestry Commission history.
The ban covers counties from Harris County to Columbia County and south to the Florida line.
It is effective immediately and will remain in place for at least 30 days.
This means:
❌ No prescribed burns
❌ No burning yard debris
❌ No agricultural burning
🔥 98% of Georgia is in moderate to exceptional drought
🔥 Wildfires are already above the 5-year average
As State Forester Johnny Sabo said:
“Just one spark or ember can ignite a life-threatening wildfire.”
⚠️ What you need to do:
• Do NOT burn outdoors
• Follow all local guidance and restrictions
• Be extremely cautious with anything that could create a spark
Our firefighters are responding to a near-record number of wildfires. We need everyone’s help to prevent the next one.

🌿🔥 Mow Smart to Prevent Wildfires

Routine yard work can unintentionally spark a wildfire if conditions are too dry or windy.

✔️ Mow before 10 a.m. when conditions are cooler
✔️ Avoid mowing during windy or excessively dry weather
✔️ Use lawnmowers only for lawns—not weeds or dry grass
✔️ Watch for rocks—metal blades striking them can create sparks

A little awareness goes a long way in protecting Georgia’s landscapes.

One Less Spark, One Less Wildfire.
