At approximately 6:30 a.m. this morning, deputies with the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting on South 10th Street in Crisp County.

Investigators have learned that three individuals were seen leaving the scene following the incident. No one was injured in this incident. The investigation remains active, and we are asking for the public’s assistance.

Sheriff Billy Hancock is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the identification and arrest of the individuals involved.

Good morning, Cordele!

The Cordele Police Department is excited to help with the Watermelon Day Parade this morning. The parade begins at 8:30 a.m. and will travel from 7th Street and 15th Avenue to Williams Field behind Aldi.

Our officers will be stationed along the parade route and at intersections to assist with traffic and help keep everyone safe. Please be patient with temporary road closures and consider using alternate routes if you need to travel in the area this morning.

As you head out to enjoy the festivities, please remember:

🚓 Watch for officers directing traffic.
🚗 Expect increased traffic and slow-moving floats and vehicles.
🚶 Be mindful of the large amount of pedestrian traffic.
👨‍👩‍👧 Keep children close and under your direct supervision.
🍬 Please do not allow children to run into the roadway to pick up candy that may be on the ground. Their safety is far more important than a handful of treats.

Please also remember not to park in roadways, block private driveways, or park along 15th Avenue on the parade route.

Today is about celebrating our community, making memories, and enjoying a tradition that brings everyone together. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping us make this event safe and enjoyable for all.

Watermelon Days Parade Safety Reminder!
The Cordele Police Department is excited for another great Watermelon Days Parade, and we hope to see everyone out enjoying this long-standing community tradition!

Parade Route:
The parade will begin at 8:30 a.m. and travel from 7th Street and 15th Avenue to Williams Field behind Aldi.

Officers will be stationed throughout the route to ensure the safety of everyone attending. Several roadways and intersections will be temporarily closed, so please plan ahead and use alternate routes if you need to travel in the area.

Expect:
Increased traffic
Slow-moving parade floats and vehicles
Heavy pedestrian traffic
Lots of families and children enjoying the parade

Safety is our top priority, especially for our youngest parade-goers.

Parents and guardians, please keep children close and under your direct supervision at all times. While everyone loves parade candy, please do not allow children to run into the roadway to pick up candy that may have fallen on the ground. No piece of candy is worth a child getting hurt.

Arrive early and please do not park:
• In the middle of side streets and roadways
• Blocking private driveways
• Along 15th Avenue on the parade route

Together, we can make this year's Watermelon Days Parade safe, fun, and memorable for everyone.

Please use caution on the roadways if you are traveling. Our area has had a large amount of rainfall in the last 48 hours, which has made some roadways impassable. As public works and other services work to block off streets and clear debris, please avoid driving if possible. More rainfall is expected.

Congratulations to the Crisp County High School Track Team, we are very proud of you!

At this morning's Cordele City Commission, the Crisp County High School Track Team was recognized. Mayor Pro Tem Vesta Beal-Shephard deemed it an honor to speak to the members of the track team and Coach Chris Bowen and recognize them for their achievements in track and field events at CCHS. In May, the Cougars came home Champions and record breakers from the 2A State Championship meet. Among those recognized today were:

🥇 Triple Jump-Richard Thomas State Champion
Long Jump- Richard Thomas 5th place
4x800 relay team-9th place
100 meter- Tamara Johnson 8th place
400 meter-Tamara Johnson 4th place (New School Record) ⭐️
200 meter-Tamara Johnson 6th place(New School Record) ⭐️

An official proclamation will be forthcoming at a later meeting. We salute these young people. Truely, there is !

Community support makes a difference, and the Cordele Police Department is thankful for Pastor Isai Machado and the members of Fuente De Restauracion Church for thinking of our officers and staff.

Recently, their church delivered refreshments to the department, including cases of water and a variety of snacks. These simple acts of kindness go a long way and are appreciated by everyone who wears the badge and works behind the scenes to serve our community.

We are grateful for the kindness and support shown by Pastor Machado and Fuente De Restauracion Church. Thank you!

Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Army!

Today, the Cordele Police Department proudly joins our nation in celebrating the men and women of the U.S. Army and the generations of Soldiers who have answered the call to serve and defend our country.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the many hometown Soldiers from Cordele and Crisp County who have worn the Army uniform with honor and distinction. Your dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to our nation are deeply valued and will never be forgotten.

Thank you for your service and for protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day.
