JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Public Works Manager, the street/sanitation laborer cleans ditches and provides pick up of trash, rubbish, construction debris and other materials on assigned routes. Provides general labor for construction, repair and maintenance of city streets, sewers, drainage systems and other city properties. Assigned to mowing, collection and removal of brush, debris, and leaves from city right of way. Employee will operate mowers with attachments, boom loaders and other equipment required for debris removal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintenance of city sewers and ditches.
2. Performs general labor: cleaning curbs, sewer lines, ditches, cut grass on right of way, patch holes in street, construction of streets, drainage systems, alleys, sewer systems, storm drains, right of ways, etc.
3. Provides curbside pickup of trash, rubbish, and recycle materials on assigned routes.
4. Loads and unloads construction materials: sand, gravel, bricks, concrete blocks, asphalt, etc.
5. Performs daily vehicle preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
6. This position performs the duties of public works and may require employee to perform a variety of other assigned duties. Shifts may vary according to needs of the city.
7. Reports problems or unusual situations to supervisor.
8. Operates mowers with attachments, leaf blowers and w**deaters.
9. Responsible for protection of personal property while performing assigned duties.
10. Demolishes structures and loads debris for disposal in landfill or other areas of disposal.
11. Represents the City of Cordova in a friendly, tactful and courteous manner.
12. Paints refurbished and damaged dumpster boxes.
13. Maintains and cleans building used by the department.
14. Cuts or trims trees as necessary.
15. Planting trees, flowers, shrubs and ground covers.
16. Installs mulch and controls w**ds.
17. Responsible for the routine maintenance of the City of Cordova streets, alleys and right of ways; patching and repairing potholes, street cuts, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND LICENSE:
1. Must have a valid State of Alabama driver’s license.
2. High School education, GED or equivalent experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND SUPERVISION REQUIRED:
1. Knowledge of City of Cordova streets.
2. Ability to establish and maintain a good relationship with co-workers and the public.
3. Ability to use and follow safety procedures, regulations, and equipment.
4. Ability to perform miscellaneous and varied assignments: construction, repair, maintenance, demolition, etc.
5. Ability to work in and around moving traffic and other obstructions.
6. Ability to work around, above and under utilities.
7. Knowledge of traffic safety rules and regulations.
8. Ability to read, write and understand material related to the position.
9. Ability to operate various hand tools.
10. Ability to operate various mowers, chain-saws, w**d eaters, etc.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. SEALED BIDS WILL BE RECEIVED BY THE CITY OF CORDOVA AT 154 MAIN STREET, CORDOVA, ALABAMA, 35550 UNTIL 10:00 A.M. SEPTEMBER 29, 2026, AND AT THAT TIME PUBLICLY OPENED FOR CONSTRUCTING THE FOLLOWING:

Work to complete installation of asphalt overlay at multiple locations throughout the City of Cordova, Alabama. This work shall include the full depth replacement of portions of the roadways, milling repair, and other associated appurtenances.

THE BRACKET ESTIMATE ON THIS PROJECT IS FROM $3,000,000 TO $4,000,000. THIS BRACKET RANGE IS PROVIDED ONLY AS A GENERAL INDICATION OF A BROAD FINANCIAL SIZE CATEGORY FOR THE PROJECT. IT SHOULD NOT BE USED IN PREPARING A BID, NOR WILL IT HAVE ANY BEARING ON ANY DECISION TO AWARD THE CONTRACT. THE PRINCIPAL ITEMS OF WORK ARE APPROXIMATELY AS FOLLOWS:

6150 tons of Wearing surface installation, 26,000 square yards of roadway patching, 12,500 square yards of planing of existing pavement, associated leveling as required to establish cross slope and other associated appurtenances.

A NON-MANDATORY PRE-BID MEETING WILL BE HELD FOR THIS PROJECT AT 10:00 A.M. LOCAL STANDARD TIME ON THE 21ST DAY OF SEPTEMBER 2026 AT THE SAME LOCATION AS THE BID OPENING.

THE ENTIRE PROJECT SHALL BE COMPLETED IN ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY (120) CALENDAR DAYS.

JOB SUMMARY:

A police officer is responsible for enforcing local, state and federal laws to ensure public safety. They investigate crimes, respond to emergency calls, conduct traffic stops, patrol assigned areas, and ensure the safety of the community. Officers must act with integrity, professionalism and accountability in all situations. A police officer plays a critical role in maintaining public safety, enforcing laws and ensuring order within a community.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Regularly patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity.
2. Enforce laws and ordinances related to traffic, public safety and criminal behavior.
3. Respond promptly to calls for assistance or emergencies, including accidents, crimes and disturbances.
4. Issue citations or warnings for violations of traffic laws, noise ordinances and other offenses.
5. Arrest individuals suspected of committing crimes and process them according to legal procedures.
6. Gather evidence, take statements, and conduct interviews for criminal investigations.
7. Write clear and accurate reports detailing incidents, arrests, investigations and other activities.
8. Testify in court as needed, presenting evidence and recounting facts of cases.
9. Engage with community members to build trust and foster positive relationships.
10. Respond to and manage crisis situations, including domestic disputes, mental health calls and other emergencies.
11. Provide first aid or CPR when necessary and coordinate with emergency medical services (EMS).
12. Maintain control during tense or dangerous situations, using de-escalation techniques when possible.
13. Participate in joint investigations, operations and task forces as needed.
14. Maintain and properly store evidence, documentation and police equipment.
15. Complete required training and certifications.
16. Attend regular briefings, meetings and departmental activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND LICENSE:

1. Must hold APOST certification.
2. High school diploma or equivalent required.
3. Good physical condition and the ability to pass physical fitness assessments.
4. Previous law enforcement or military experience preferred.
5. Valid driver’s license.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND SUPERVISION REQUIRED:

1. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
2. Must pass background check and required training courses up to and including APOST.
3. Ability to deal with people calmly and effectively, particularly in high-stress or dangerous situations.
4. Ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure, particularly in emergency or crisis situations.
5. Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
6. High ethical standards and commitment to upholding the law.

PHYISCAL REQUIREMENTS:

Officers will alternate between sitting in their vehicle for long periods of time and getting out on foot for patrols or calls for service. This may include running and physically subduing suspects so a reasonable level of physical fitness is required.

EQUIPMENT / TOOLS USED:

Police Officers will use a vast array of equipment in the course of their job including but not limited to; City supplied patrol vehicles, standard issue fi***rm, less-than-lethal weaponry, computers, handcuffs, evidence collection supplies.

SUPERVISION REQUIRED:

Police Officers will work with limited supervision on a broadly defined assignment. It will be the duty of the officer to triage their tasks as they come up as multiple tasks may require attention at any given time.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Community Services Assistant, under the direction of the Community Services Director is responsible for conducting events and activities for the Cordova Children’s Program, and Cordova Senior’s Program. Member assists children enrolled in the program with various activities, as well as seniors. Member is responsible for maintaining a clean facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Facilitates completion of homework assignments.
2. Assists in plating and distributing meals to senior participants in the program.
3. Reports to the Program Director, any behavior issues.
4. Reports to the Program Director, any academic issues that should be addressed.
5. Assists the Director in maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment.
6. Interacts with enrolled children and guardians, as well as the public and works closely with civic groups and organizations.
7. Facilitates cleaning of facilities used by the program.
8. Assists Community Services Director with the implementation of the Cordova Children's Summer Program.
9. Completes special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND LICENSE:
1. High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent.
2. Experience working with children and/or the public.
3. Basic first aid knowledge.
4. Valid driver’s license.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND SUPERVISION REQUIRED:
1. Interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in an effective manner with the public, the local business community, employees, department heads, and elected municipal officials.
2. Ability to work independently with minimal administrative supervision.
3. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully in writing.
4. Must have strong organizational skills.
5. Must have experience working with children and/or the public.

Physical Demands:
Prolonged standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting. Member is responsible for the cleaning of the areas utilized by the Cordova Senior Program and Cordova Children’s Program (kitchen, bathrooms, meeting area).

Supervision Required:
Member works with supervision from the Community Services Director.
