City of Cornelia to Hold Public Hearings on Proposed 2026 Property Tax Increase
CORNELIA, Ga. — The City of Cornelia has tentatively adopted a 2026 millage rate that would increase property taxes by 20.89 percent, and city officials are inviting residents to weigh in at a series of upcoming public hearings.
The tentative rate of 11.5 mills is 1.99 mills above the rollback rate. Without the proposed increase, the millage rate would be no more than 9.51 mills.
Under the proposed rate, a homeowner with a property valued at $225,000 would see an estimated tax increase of about $180. Non-homestead property owners with a property valued at $300,000 would see an estimated increase of about $240.
City officials are encouraging all concerned citizens to attend one of the scheduled public hearings to learn more and share their input:
• Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
• Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.
• Tuesday, October 6, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
All hearings will be held at Cornelia City Hall Court Room, 181 Larkin Street, Cornelia, Georgia.
