Registration is NOW OPEN for Firefighter Experience Camp 2026!

Without further ado, we’re excited to officially kick off another year of Firefighter Experience Camp, and we can’t wait to welcome both new faces and returning campers back for an unforgettable experience.

This year, camp will be running July 8th to July 10th 8am to 5pm for anyone 14 to 18 years of age interested in learning more about the fire service.

From fighting fires and learning CPR, to vehicle extrication, search and rescue, and hands-on firefighting skills, campers will get a firsthand look into the fire service and the teamwork that drives it.

Whether you’re returning for another year or joining us for the first time, we’re looking forward to another action-packed 3 days full of learning, challenges, and memories that will last long after camp ends.

Registration will accept all Corning-Painted Post school district residents initially, with remaining spots filled with out of district registrations after June 15th. Notification will be sent upon enrollment.

We would like to congratulate our own bunk in Allan for achieving his dream and becoming a career firefighter. Allan has been with us for 2 years and has gained a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge. He has become a reliable senior bunk in, who we will miss having around. Another bittersweet but successful story to another bunk in. Good luck Allan!

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of 60 year member Firefighter/Dispatcher James Johnson.

Jim started his long firefighting career with South Corning FD holding many positions along the way and finished his tour with the Joint district as our official dispatcher. He will be greatly missed.

We will share details on arrangements as they become available.

Rest Well Jim, we’ll take it from here.

Fire departments are not only called to fire repted emergencies, but also medical and a variety of rescue skill sets. This includes ice, swift and floodwater rescue.

These photos captured just a few moments of our areas swiftwater technicians getting out in the river and conducting some river training this weekend. Members from the City of Corning fire dept, Corning Joint Fire District, Gang Mills Fire dept and the Steuben county sheriffs office all participated in this weekend training.

Another year of the Fire Experience Camp has come to a close, and we couldn't be happier with the turnout!

Thirty-one recruits participated in this year's camp, including nine returning students eager to build on what they learned last year.

Over the course of the three-day camp, our recruits got a hands-on experience of the many challenges faced in the fire service, whether it was structure fires, brush fires, car wrecks, rope and water rescues, or fire investigations. Every recruit showed up with their best foot forward and soaked up every bit of knowledge our instructors had to offer.

That said, none of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of our volunteers. We were grateful to receive additional support from our neighbors
