First Day to Submit Absentee Ballot Requests

Requests for absentee ballots to be mailed for the upcoming June Primary Election may be filed with the Auditor’s Office starting on Tuesday, March 24 through Monday, May 18, 2026, at 5 PM. The first day ballots can be mailed is Wednesday, May 13. You will not receive a ballot before that date. Request forms can be obtained from the Adams County website or the Iowa Secretary of State’s website. You may also call our office and request us to mail an absentee ballot request form to you.

The Adams County Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to nominate party candidates for the general election. Only voters registered with the Democratic or Republican parties (or people who declare their affiliation with a party when casting a ballot) are allowed to vote in primary elections.

Second half property taxes are due by March 31, 2026. If you wait till the last day to mail them, please go inside the post office to have them hand stamp the date on your envelope. We will only go by the stamped date on the envelope, and the post office doesn’t get date stamped until the next day. If the date is April 1st or after, there will be penalties.

Most county courthouse offices will be closed Monday, February 16 for President's Day. The driver's license department will be closed and there will be no passport services. The Clerk of Court's Office and the Law Enforcement Center will be open.

As of January 2026, the City of Corning, Iowa, has mandated that all recycling containers be removed from their location on John Street. All recycling containers will be removed by Saturday, January 31, 2026. This change follows requests from city leadership regarding the management and location of these facilities.

The Adams County Board of Supervisors is currently evaluating alternative options for recycling placement and services. Residents and interested parties should note the following:

• Alternative Disposal: For assistance with bulky item pickup or ongoing recycling and trash concerns, residents can contact Corning City Hall at 641-322-3062 or reach out directly to Waste Management at 641-782-6707.

• Board Meetings: The Adams County Board of Supervisors meets every Monday at 9:00 a.m. at the Adams County Courthouse (500 9th Street, Corning). These meetings are open to the public for those wishing to hear updates on the relocation of the containers.

All courthouse offices will be closed Monday, January 19 in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The driver's license department will be closed and there will be no passport services. The Law Enforcement Center will remain open throughout.
