The Cornish Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of long time CFD dispatcher Norine Bucknell. Her calming voice on the radio was reassuring as she was always there for us at all hours, day or night. Once the call was over, Norine’s famous blueberry muffins were always a treat.

Norine also dispatched for Sacopee Rescue for many years.

Rest easy 630, we’ll take it from here.

Cornish Fire is urging residents and visitors to use extreme caution with any outdoor fire. Drought conditions coupled with dry fuels and heat have led to high and very high fire danger. If you smell or see smoke, call 911, as early intervention is key to prevent a large wildfire.
Burn Permit Moratorium in Effect: The Maine Forest Service has temporarily suspended issuing any new burn permits to reduce the risk from escaped burns, a leading cause of wildfires in Maine. The state's online system is shut down until conditions improve, and local Town Wardens are encouraged to withhold written burn permits until conditions improve.
