A coastal storm is still expected to affect us Saturday through Monday, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and dangerous surf. Most locations could see up to 4 inches of rain, with isolated heavier amounts of 5–6 inches possible.
Winds will increase Saturday night and peak Sunday into early Monday, sustained near 25–35 mph with gusts around 45 mph along the coast, and somewhat lighter inland. These onshore winds will push water toward The Northern Outer Banks, causing moderate to locally major tidal flooding at each high tide. Rough surf, beach erosion, and high rip current risk are expected all weekend. The 4WD area in Corolla will likely become impassable in the hours before and after high tide.
At the same time, Currituck Sound water levels may drop very low at times, temporarily exposing flats or making navigation tricky as strong northeast breezes push water out of the area.
Estimated Tide Times
Saturday: Low at 4:50 AM / High at 11:20 AM / Low at 5:58 PM / High at 11:46 PM
Sunday: Low at 5:47 AM / High at 12:21 PM / Low at 7:02 PM
Monday: High at 12:51 AM / Low at 6:53 AM / High at 1:28 PM / Low at 8:09 PM
Take time this evening to secure outdoor items. If traveling in the 4WD area this weekend, exercise caution and check local tide times before venturing out. No matter where you travel, never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. Stay tuned to updates from US National Weather Service Wakefield VA and us!
