Climb the 220 steps to the top for a breathtaking view while learning from docents, brochures, and exhibits about shipwrecks, the lives of lighthouse keepers, the national significance and history of the tower (it filled the last remaining dark space on the east coast in

1875) and the original 1st order Fresnel lens. The beacon continues to be an active aid to navigation (3 seconds on, 17 off since 1933). The station is a preservation effort of the Outer Banks Conservationists along with the State of NC and the USCG through the NHLHP Act of 2000.
$13/person; Must be 4+ to climb. Dogs on leash welcome on the grounds. Drones and their pilots must stay outside site's fence line.

Even the deer want to know if we’re still open while our big project is going on – yes we are every day 9 AM to 5 PM weather permitting and later on Wednesdays and Thursdays (8pm)!

Big day! Our contractors arrived to start a major restoration project (exterior repointing and iron care!), our US congressman Don Davis climbed and learned all about the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Outer Banks Conservationists, and we found an underground vault!? (better view of this in our next post)

Families of all ages are invited to our Maritime Heritage Day on Wednesday, July 15th from 10 am - 2 p.m.! We'll have presenters from Dismal Swamp State Park, CSS Neuse Civil War Museum, Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, Merchants Millpond State Park, N.E.S.T. (Network for Endangered Sea Turtles), Beekeepers of the Albemarle, Roanoke River Lighthouse and Maritime Museum, and the NC Aquarium on Roanoke Island. It will be a fun-filled day where you can meet with experts and engage in hands-on activities.

We will also have a History for Lunch presentation at noon featuring Andrew Duppstadt, education and interpretation supervisor for the North Carolina Division of State Historic Sites. He will highlight some of North Carolina’s most famous (or infamous) seafaring personalities, pirates, privateers, and commerce raiders across 150 years of maritime history.
