On the northern Outer Banks, this 1875 tower lit the last dark on the Atlantic Coast; opens again mid-March (Saturday, March 21) for the 2026 daily-climbing season! Open for the 2026 season March 21 - through December 1, daily 9am-5pm,
Climb the 220 steps to the top for a breathtaking view while learning from docents, brochures, and exhibits about shipwrecks, the lives of lighthouse keepers, the

national significance and history of the tower (it filled the last remaining dark space on the east coast in 1875) and the original 1st order Fresnel lens. The station is a preservation effort of the Outer Banks Conservationists along with the State of NC and the USCG through the NHLHP Act of 2000.
$13/person; Must be 4+ to climb. Drones and their pilots must stay outside site's fence line.

Our Story

SEASON 2018 - opening March 17 and will stay open daily until December 1, 2018. (Closed on Thanksgiving Day.) Open 9-5 daily (weather depending - we close the tower for thunder and close the outside gallery when winds are high). In the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day) we'll stay open on Wednesday and Thursday evenings until 8 p.m. The cost to climb is $10 (kids aged 7/younger climb free with an adult). We accept cash and checks.
